I believe this is the best version on A Raisin in the Sun. No one can act out the original even if it was in black and white. "In my mother's house there is still GOD"

every family has its problems but when an african american family tries to better its lot in a segregated america they encounter difficulties that stem mostly from social oppression affecting the hopes and dreams of its members. a raisin in the sun is shot like a play with the ...( read more)action confined to a single room but the story is so compelling and the acting so rich that the theatrical quality of the film is lost on the viewer. Poitier won an oscar for lilies in the field but it could easily have been for this film where he plays a father whose foibles threaten to bring down his entire family. lorraine hornbury's tale about a struggling black family in a racist america is an inspirational look at the redeeming qualities of dreams, hope, faith and unity.

One of the most powerful plays ever written in the late 1950s, and is brought to video. This origonal movie, with Sidney Poitier, is one of the most powerful films to tell us the story of a family living in Chicago, during a time when black people did not have as much rights or f...( read more)reedom as the white man.
This film is a must see for those who love the theatre and feels they need to know our history.
