While comforting a car-crash victim, Dean Kraft (Anthony Michael Hall) suddenly discovers he has some kind of mystical healing power ability to accept his unique gift. Discovering his unique gift at an early age, Dean Kraft is reluctant to utilize his healing talents, agreeing to do so only under emergency conditions. Even when he comes to terms with his abilities, he must face the often hostile skepticism of "mainstream" doctors and caregivers. The story reaches a melodramatic apex when Dean Kraft attempts to bring a doubting doctor's daughter out of a coma. Scott Davis Jones' teleplay is careful to neither fully confirm nor flatly deny Dean Kraft's healing prowess, permitting viewers to draw their own conclusions. His life is surprisingly and inexplicably changed when he comforts the victim of a car accident and observes the victim being healed by his extraordinary touch under the guidance of Doctor Blundell, who encourages Dean Kraft's healing experiments with the sick and dying, the young man's attempts at hands-on healing become more successful.
