Great movie with an amazing screenplay. The story and plot hardly becoming pointless, this movie has outstanding performances from both Jack Nicholson and Kathy Bates. My rating: 3 1/2 stars.

Jack Nicholson plays a man forced into retirement who goes on a road trip to be at his slacker daughter's wedding. Cathy Bates whos her aging saggy boob. It's a shock and awe scene that elicits a gag response, that for some reason the conservatives liked better than Janet Jackson's similar flashing display on TV a year earlier. Not sure what to make of that. Anyway, the movie is knda boring and tedious. It's just too realisitc at first, and then derails itself into ridiculous.

Love this film. The director takes a harsh and realistic approach to the material. Some sequences in the film are so geniune it may leave some feeling uncomfortable. Well worth a watch. One of Nicholson's best performances.

This movie is great in so many ways. It is refreshing to see Jack Nicholson playing against the type we normally see him play. The onlyl complaint is that at spots the movie can be a little too real and uncomfortable. Overall a great movie.

Well of course as always Jack Nicholson saves the movie, it is quite... boring, I mean yes it is like a super normal life of a super dipressive man that in the ened is very emotive but I didn't enyoyed the movie so much, It is quite dull. What I hated was the wiered scene of Cathy Bates in the bathtub YUCK! I didn't liked that character even though she is a terrifc actrees.

I found About Schmidt to be somewhat boring. I didn't find it to have any funny parts, which made it even worse was it had some fat, naked lady in a hot tub.

Great direction and a simple but well developed plot, with an awesome traumatized and lazy-guy performance by Mr. Nicholson.

I felt this movie was kind of a let down considering it was Payne's next film after the fantastic "Election".

Great film that makes you really not want to be old, but makes you appreciate old people at the same time.

Though this movie is plain and simple it still has an enormous effect on the audience. This movie also features one of the best performances by Jack Nicholson. Strongly recommended to everyone...

if they would have made this movie an hour shorter it really could have been great, but the plot building stuff was soooooo DULL, though mildly amusing, it was just a waste of film. i liked the movie, but seriously, it was too long and wasn't funny enough to pull it off.

The partnership between Alexander Payne and Jack Nicholson is magical. Nicholson`s Warren Schmidt is a resigned man. He`s not happy nor bitter or sad and Payne`s direction gives us this feeling. The photography with mixed tones deals with the contrasts of Schmidt. Irresistible!

Something of a disappointment given my appreciation of Alexander Payne's other work, but effortlessly watchable all the same. The narrative dididn't really progress as I wanted it to, but Jack Nicholson is great and Dermot Mulroney is amusing as Nicholson's bonehead son-in-law to be.

Somewhat tragic look at "when old men grow old" -can't say I'm looking forward to it if this is the path.
At the end of life what have we left???

Nicholson is simply incredible. Not his normal role, but a good role. Bates also gives wonderful support to the cast. A must see for anyone who is a fan of Nicholson.

This is another movie I feel got a lot more rants than it deserved. Don't get me wrong, I do think it's bad...just not as good as everyone was hyping. Or perhaps I just didn't get it.

Nicholson plays a man who after losing his wife, goes on a road trip in an RV and tries to find the meaning of life again. This one is different, and some scenes are funny while some are sad, and one in particular will make you cringe.

Jack Nicholson is truly a brilliant actor and this role is another to add to how great he is. A lot of the film he is alone and therefore has to use a lot of emotions to show things.

If any actor other than Jack Nicholson was to play Warren Schmidt, I can almost immediately see the quality of the film decreasing by half. 'About Schmidt' is an extremely well written film, following a man on a journey of self discovery after his wife's death. But the film's lack of convention and cliche is more than suspicious - can such a genre exist without the typical ending of self-reflection, guilt and ultimately redemption? Well here, the absence of such a device works better than that ending ten times over. The director never gives in, ensuring his characters are consistent and the gentle pace allows for an insightful and amusing film. The humour is so subtle yet sharp and full of wit - Kathy Bates steals the show in this respect as the groom's mother; she balances a eccentric and outrageous personality with genuinity and great skill. But, as I said, this is Jack Nicholson's film - he captures the quirkiness, the pathos, the entire emotional spectrum that the down-to-earth script requires. And we never doubt that this is a real person, in real situations - the film retains a level of awkwardness, one that Nicholson plays to brilliantly, but more importantly ensures he never undergoes the drastic and unlikely change - he is bitter and arrogant to the very end, and we wouldn't want it any other way. 'About Schmidt' works as a light-hearted drama, a lesson in value, and a heavy handed, introverted comedy full of soul - either way, it's unlikely to disappoint.

I watched most of this movie. I loved Nicholson's performance. I liked how he was a bit of a skinflint about everything. He had a great warmth to him. I liked when he found out about his wife and his mate and then pissed all over the bathroom! LMAO! Need to watch it all, though. Lol
