This movie was insane. Pretty good for it's time! And he banged Courtney Cox multipul times when she was hot and not married to David "I suck at acting and I'm not funny" Arquette.
Cheap, sleazy and over-the-top but Pet Detective is pretty funny... in small doses. It is a frantic, throw everything at the audience to see what sticks, approach to humor. And in so doing Carrey, as Ace, may remind some of Jerry Lewis who has done all this before minus the raunch and unsophisticated attempts at vulgar humor. The plot itself is a bit convoluted, merely a structure for the absurdity but it works. Perhaps the biggest problem with Pet Detective is that the silly is so overdone that it's tiring to the viewer. Funny at times, sure and as a career vehicle, this put Carrey on the map. But I wouldn't call Pet Detective a "must see".
Classic Jim Carrey, this film is corny, cheesy, low production value, and fantastic. Lots of memorable scenes and one-liners make this movie one you want to watch over and over.
