    Adventures of Zatoichi once again sticks to the tried and tested formula, while adding characters and memorable moments. Unlike some of the other additions, it doesn't expand on the style. This results in the film fading amongst the others. The moments that really stand out are w...( read more)hen Zatoichi interacts with the colourful locals. A comedy duo and a pair of acrobat kids allow Zatoichi to evolve, ever so slightly, as a a character. The sword play is some of the best, especially from Katsu, but after 9 films you'd expect that from the man. It does make more reference to Zatoichi as a gangster, or at least ex-gangster, which raises interesting questions for other installments. It also has a lot of themes revolving around family, with missing fathers and accused brothers. Another wonderful installment, but you must have a taste for the formula or it will fall flat.
