He tries to take care of it himself in the town he lives in, but social pressures force him to take it to his home village and hire a blind girl to look… More In this black-and-white Indian feature, a schoolteacher compassionately adopts a newborn donkey when its mother is killed by an enraged crowd. He tries to take care of it himself in the town he lives in, but social pressures force him to take it to his home village and hire a blind girl to look after it. Even there, someone has it in for the hapless creature, and engineers a situation which will lead the villagers to kill it because they take it to be a bad-luck animal. After its death, it becomes a local legend and is considered, ironically, to confer blessings on those who have visions of it. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi
