He tries to take care of it himself in the town he lives in, but social pressures force him to take it to his home village and hire a blind girl to look after it. Even there, someone has it in for the hapless creature, and engineers a situation which will lead the villagers to kill it because they take it to be a bad-luck animal. After its death, it becomes a local legend and is considered, ironically, to confer blessings on those who have visions of it. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi
