Alienated and unfamiliar with the langua...( read more  read more... )ge, these refugees were forced to live through the war without their parents and with little news from home. Eero, who, as a nine-year-old boy, is sent to rural Sweden by his mother following the death of her husband. As if the abrupt transition was not traumatic enough, Eero's new family doesn't exactly welcome him: his surrogate mother Signe, who was hoping for a girl to help her around the house, is infuriated. The kids at his school think he's weird, and mock him when he hides from a passing plane that reminds him of the bombings back home. What's more, Signe only gives Eero the letters from his family that she feels are appropriate. Eero begins to act out, which only makes matters much worse.

Another great movie coming from the north, touching and tender story inspired by real events. During the WW II a large number of finnish kids were sent to Sweden for their own protection.
The movie offers a fine observation on how the event affects a child and the family that ...( read more)gives him not only shelter but love and caring.
Great acting from the cast, and a very subtle but effective performance by Maria Lundqvist.

very touching war drama! i saw it on tv and i was suprised at first because of the language but it's really not truth that only english language movies are good. great black and white changes of time - present and past and good actors.
