Is it worth watching Monster, or is it just a waste of time?

I saw this before the movie 'Monster' which is a dramatisation about Aileen Wuornos. Monster in no way shows the 'real' Aileen.
This is 100% real. Nick Broomfield interviews Aileen on camera many times, and develops a relationship with her. It's fascinating, disturbing, yet also incredibly tragic. This woman is a murderer, but she is also clearly mentally ill. Her story changes frequently from denial to admittance, and stories of government conspiracies to create and cash in on the worlds first female serial killer.
I'm not going to deny the fact that I sympathised with Aileen, not for her actions.. It's hard to explain, but this documentary made me feel very sad. Her last scene and meeting with Nick before her death was especially hard to watch.
I think this is a must see for all.

Broomfield succeeeded in making me feel sorry about this murderer. Whether she did it on purpose or out of self defense we will never know. It seems to me that Aileen needed help in the earlier years when she continuously was convicted for petty crimes such as speed driving, soft drugs e.g. Instead of helping this youngster she was put behind bars and the anger turned into murder. I'm not surprised. The seven men she killed were probably no angels either. Those so called decent men were certainly not so decent since they were in need of a prostitute! And governor Bush of course, the biggest swine of them all, the deep "christian" man sent this woman straight to her death, instead of making her do some real work inside jail so that for the first time in her miserable life she would feel respected. I really feel sorry for her, and not so much for her victims. She was the real victim.

Very sick and disturbing docu-film by the legend Nick Broomfield...perhaps the most shocking thing I have ever watched, coz everyone surrounding Aileen are absolutely detestable snakes!

this documentry was a very well presented gave you a good detail of aileens life and how she spend her final day alive before she was executed, and why she committed the crimes she did, this movie will defently not be a bore to anyone and gives you the circumstances that lead to her death.

If you believed that Charlize Theron made an uncharacteristically epic transformation in her portrayal of real-life prostitute turned killer Aileen Wuornos in 'Monster', then prepare to be perplexed even further. Not only do the two look almost identical (give or take a few years) but its startling to realise that the real life Wuornos is even more irreverent in prison than Theron would have you believe that she was out in society. All through this documentary, Wuornos displays no sign of remorse, hindsight or reservation of her actions, a representation which almost irradicates the air of sympathy we feel for her character in 'Monster'. Perhaps it was the perogative of Joan Churchill and Nick Broomfield to create a contrast between the two; since 'Monster' attempts to provide motives for Wuornos' madness, Churchill and Broomfield seek to make these motives irrelevent. Either way, it is unlikelythat audiences will never know the complete truth and since Aileen Wuornos no longer among the living,

This was beyond messed up! Aileen was born into a "family" (I'll use that term loosely) situation that was unbelievably bad. She was abused practically from day 1 and it never got any better. There is still no excuse for murder but seeing this helps give you a glimpse into how this woman became who she was as an adult. The scene with her mother when she asks, "why did she act the way she did?" when she abandoned her at a young age, OOOH! That part outraged me so bad! How could she even ask that?! If Aileen would have had a decent human being step into her life at a young age and be a good role model for her I know she wouldn't have ended up the way she did. It's cases like Aileen's that make me want to advocate for adults to mentor children, especially at risk youth. We can gawk all we want at the problem but until you do something about it - sit down and shut up!

After seeing Monster we had to see the two by Nick Broomfield. I found it troubling the way he exploited her

As someone with a psychological interest in killers, I found this documentary most facsinating, anyone who enjoyed the film Monster and would like to see the real Aileen would find this interesting

Broomfield probes further into the mysteries of the Aileen Wuornos case as the date of her death draws nearer. The so called 'serial killer's past is delved into in more depth in this follow up documentary, and we are shown a different side of Aileen. Evocative and interesting stuff.
