Very entertaining, sit back and take it all in - try and land on a smallclearing on a steep mountain site, try and hide a plane that is wanted and there is really no where to hide, or is there. Who good and who's bad? High energy
When the job you do doesn't officially exist, lines begin to blur a little. When you do it long enough... what are the rules left? When you know something's wrong, is it your job to care and fix it?
A movie with a carefree air and light morale on serving as a backbone.
Gibson and Downey Jr. work pretty well together, their characters coming along from the start, pushing and pulling each other slightly on the way but not as much as is usually seen in film; these two just hit it off, carved from the same wood as they are.
All in all the movie has just the right amount of action, scheming, humor and morale.
WATCH MY UNCLE LANE SMITH-LEGEND OF BAGGAR VANCE-MYCOUSIN VINNY-ETC. WAS THE ORIGINAL JACK NICHOLSON ROLE ON BROADWAY FOR ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOOS NEST!!!
A lot better than I first anticipated. I mainly wanted to see it because it had Robert Downey Jr. in it. I'm glad that I don't have to say he was better than he actually was just because I like him as an actor. He was actually pretty good. And although the film itself isn't amazing, he was definatly the highlight. Out performing Mel Gibson by quite a bit. I think that the preference to Downey Jr's character was also down the the fact that there wasn't as much characterisation done on Gibson. The plot is interesting and involving but it is also a bit of a mish mash of different concepts. The film was originally meant to be a serious war film but after most of their budget was spent it was turned into a less serious, more comic film instead. It still works well and is definatly worth seeing at least once.
inpressive if you know where to look, especially at the beginging where the plane is flying overhead, and this little man with a shotgun fires at it, from i would guess at least 200 mebbe 300 hundred feet above him, and he casualy hears it, turns around and just aims and fires, sure enough, he actually hits the plane and damages it so much that the engine is on fire and almost crashes, now that is what i call funny
Mel Gibson, Robert Downey Jr. complement each other well in this simple comedy. Roger Spottiswoode has made some remarkably good action films in his time, light, non-gory violence with some humanity and a decent storyline to boot. Some might find this funnier than I did, and the acting is pretty good. Robert Downey Jr. is especially effective as the straight man.
It's the 60s; the CIA has a secret civilian airforce in Vietnam and they're learning to love the war. Absolutely enjoyable for its wry humour, insight on life in general and the performances of Mel Gibson and Robert Downey.
A lot of favourite movies are fairly serious, but this isn't. Not a great movie in critic's eyes or in the eyes of Gibson or Downey Jr, but I think its the best film either did!
Also, the one film that I could recite every word in. Sad, I know!
I find the concept of this film absolutely bizarre...a story about CIA black ops during the Vietnam war. Played for laughs?? If you can ignore the obvious tastelessness of the whole idea, Gibson and Downey Jr. actually have some great chemistry and it IS quite funny. A guilty pleasure indeed.
This was entertaining, especially the part with the elephant. The other good thing was that it came about before either of these good gentelmen thought that they were big stars.

The epitome of a sub-par movie. It didn't put me to sleep, but I remember almost nothing about it. Downey was sort of charming... but this is not one of his better films.
An earlier Mel Gibson that is worth a watch - just to see him in those combat tousers that cling so appealingly to his bum and show off his packet!! Set in Laos during the Vietnam war and Mel and his cronies are involved in smuggling ops to boost their fly boy pensions. Joined by young boy Downey he eventually swings Mel's character into doing the right thing, some good cinematic scenes but I was happy just watching Mel !!
A movie with no true heroes and no true villains (well..) because there is no room to be either is this place, where nothing is as simple as it seems to be - not even when "simple" is as pretty darn complicated as it is in a war like the Vietnam-war.
well it looks ok but i mean mel gibson is a good actor and i will give him the benefit of the dought but every actor has a movie that blows. anyway they do not really give alot of info on this movie and so i will have to give it a......................
