Another classic from the master Kurosawa.A great flick!
Simply gorgeous, the final Kurosawa film, and his most daring. Even Martin Scorsese has a small part, playing as Vincent Van Gogh.
The second I read that there was a Kurosawa film in which Scorsese plays Van Gogh, it became my mission to track down this movie.
The master of all cinema releases this compilation film of some dreams he has had. All expertly handled, and beautifully shot. It loses marks as the overall quality is inconsistent. Some dreams just aren't as good as others. Other dreams become a bit too preachy in their message.
This is a surreal trip into the mind of Kurosawa. Sometimes it is beautiful, sometimes it is haunting, but always visual. This is an amazing achievement into cinema by a master of the mediums. What an awesome movie!
Beautiful and complex, biography and fantasy join forces on screen.
momentos maravillosos!!! una película inusual.. el problema es que hay que tener un amplio conocimiento de arte y cultura japonesa para disfrutar al máximo de esta pelicula... personalmente me gustaron ciertas partes.. otras no tanto porque no las entendí!
Not what i pictured at first it would be, but definatly charming. worth watching thats for sure~
FUCKING BRILLIANT. I LOVE THIS MOVIE AND IF YOU DON'T GET IT, I DON'T CARE IT'S JUST TOO AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL.
Another cinematic journey where "Where much is given much is required" applies.
Akira Kurosawa is the Japanese Spielberg, this is an amazing enterpretation of dreams he has had. Make of these stories what you will...
Un beau film, mais qui m'intéresse pas personellement... C'est pas un sujet qui m'attire... Mais y'a des bons trucs, comme Scorsese dans le rôle de Van Gogh!
First of all it's diferent. Don't think there's any other film out there about 8 diferent dreams who suposely don't have much to do with each other... Is there? The film is visually astonishing and creative and I don't think I need to say again how original and unique it is... It...( read more)
Kurosawa, Spielberg and Lucas and Scorcese on the same set. They walk through Van Gogh paintings! Incredible visually. A total trip :p
combines my love of short stories and the stunning imagery only akira kurosawa brings. as his last film, it reveals his perspective through japan's recent history and culture shock
If you have not seen this and loved it, then I assume you are an idiot who doesn't deserve to breathe the same air as the rest of us.
It's something different. A fox wedding procession, dancing dolls, snow fairies...although it can be a little preachy at times (the whole thing can be seen as a cry for environmental conservation), it's a joy to watch. Simply brilliant.
This is essentially eight separate short films, though with some overlaps in terms of characters and thematic material - chiefly that of man's relationship with his environment. 'Sunshine Through The Rain': a young boy is told not to go out on the day when both weather conditions...( read more)
Kurosawa puts everything into perspective with anti-perspective. He captures the sub-conscious very well, and sends a message with it.
if you need to tire your eyes out with surreal imagery and tweak ur imagination, plug this. (highly recommend with acid)
It is confusing at first becuase I didn't know the concept when Istarted watching it. The concept is as the title states "Akira Kurosawa's Dreams". it is a compalation of several dreams he has had.
If these were his real dreams then he was an interesting guy. Some of the "dreams" were beautiful.
