Alien 3 Reviews and Ratings

I hated this movie when it first came out. How can any film live up to the massive expectations created by 'Aliens', one of the best sequels of all time? The answer is that no film can. You can't top 'Aliens', so you have to go backwards, strip down the franchise and bring it...( read more) back to basics. And that's exactly what the filmmakers did. Unfortunately, it's not particularly scary and it looks rather cheap (from a production design and visual effects standpoint). However, the atmosphere created by the brilliant cinematography and killer musical score really grab you - not to mention stellar performances from Sigourney Weaver, Charles Dutton and the rest of the cast.

I think the story would have been better if Hick's lived. Aliens was the best out of the franchise.

Alien and Aliens are two of the greatest movies ever made. This movie bitchslaps Aliens square across the face and cops out to try to find a way to continue the story that James Cameron seemingly wrapped up perfectly. The alien in this movie looks different and seems to act very ...( read more)different than in the first two movies, and you really long for the strong character development from the first two.
And yet... I still really like this movie, because it's still an Alien movie, and I really like the atmosphere of dread and the cinematography and sets and etc.

Seen it. I liked the first one better.
  • February 26, 2010
    Loved all the alien movies.
  • February 24, 2010
Visually marvellous. Directing & acting is immaculate. Too bad the story is drab and the characters aren't likeable. Almost ruins the flm - a definite fumble in the series. Still, this movie was destined to be the disaster of the decade due to studio meddling. How Fincher pu...( read more)lled off something so unique and that works is shocking. Still... I do dig the desolation theme but I sure wish there was something more interesting here -- not these shitty prisoner characters. At least there's quite a surprise ending. And several hugely dramatic scenes.

a perfect way to end the greatest trilogy of time
  • February 10, 2010
not Fincher's best, let along not the greatest in the pack, but it still entertains.
  • February 5, 2010
By far the worst Fincher film to date. However it's not bad at all, the effects are good and there was a nice atmosphere.

Ripley ahora tiene que sobrevivir en un Planeta Prisión. La historia esta buena. Buena fotografía y buena historia.
  • January 14, 2010
Easily the worst of the first three in the series.

alien 3 is probably one of the best scifi films in the 90's alien 3 is a great follow up to the previous film aliens after ripley's ship crashed she was sent to prison and I also enjoyed the return of pumpkinhead's lance henriksen being in this sequel but this time he didn't pl...( read more)ay a droid he was the person that created the droid and pre seven's david fincher had done excellent job directing this sequel.

After escaping and destroying the aliens at planet LV-426, the space ship carrying Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and the three other survivors crash lands on a 'prison planet' called Fiorina 161. Ripley turns out to be the only survivor after the crash and is very unwelcome by the re...( read more)ligious inmates. This was director David Fincher's first big time director job, and while the first "Alien" movie was a horror and the second one was pure action, "Alien3" is what Fincher does best: a thriller. Not as good as the first two, it's starts out good but by the end I think it's really uninteresting and the ending wasn't the best either. Still worth seeing if you liked the previous ones.

Not a bad debut by David Fincher

think they were reaching a bit!

Six years later after the satisfying James cameron's Aliens 20th century fox decided to make another sequel for only the purpose of making money. So they brought aboard then newcomer David Fincher, to helm this uninteresting and unexciting film, alien 3. What's wrong with this fi...( read more)lm? There is just no structure to the story, there are no characters to identify with or any suspense. There's just violence, swearing and pointless chase scenes that's all there is to it.

However I have forgiven Fincher for ever making this pile of garbage, having found out he's already done some films that are critically acclaimed. But what angered me when I started watching this film was the fact that they killed off Corporal Hicks (Michael Biehn), Rebecca "Newt" Jordan (Carrie Henn), and the original Bishop (Lance Henriksen). They were all great characters in aliens why did they have to kill them off?!

Also the design for the alien in this film is awful, the effects are awful and even the acting is mediocre. Fans of the franchise skip this film, in my opinion the franchise should have been laid to rest after aliens. I hated hated hated hated this sequel. I never ever want to see this film again.

I bought this film from Blockbuster so I had the ability to watch the special edition instead of the theatrical release. I did enjoy this film a lot. I liked the first two and I figured that the third would not be much different that the others. The ending was quite surprising an...( read more)d a bit confusing at some times. It seemed that everytime something went right something horribly wrong happened. I still don't understand why the crazy guy hit his friend, slashed the throat of the other, and opened the door to the alien. I am guessing because he was crazy but it seemed that when he first encountered it he was really scared of the "dragon". It was also a little sad that Clemens dies but it is necessary because if he did not Ripley may have wanted to live, but she couldn't in order for the "Queen" to die. The movie was good but there was a F word every other word in the film. Whoever wrote script did not have much of a vocabulary beyond "xenomorph". This film contains a lot more profanity and gore than its predeccesors.

Part 1& 2 were the best. in my collection.
  • December 18, 2009
There was only one way to go and that was down after the superbness of the previous sequel but this one isn't too bad. They should have stopped the franchise right here.
  • December 11, 2009
It was so good ... I enjoyed the whole Trilogy, but this one was maybe my favorite of all
  • December 11, 2009
L'un des films qui m'as le plus dégoûter dans cette saga, mais il reste assez important à cause de plusieurs bouleversements qui ont changé la franchise.
  • November 25, 2009
A huge failure and terrible direction in the franchise. It has a very unique look, but that is about it. The story is terrible and almost sad to watch. Sigourney Weaver couldn't even save this film, her acting came off like she was bored to be there.
  • November 23, 2009
It's pretty good, and for the third part of any series, it's fantastic. Definitely a continuation of the story, and not just another sequel.

The backstories of how Fincher left during editing and the various other script treatments are more interesting that this convoluted entry.

This movie is kind of disappointing when compared to the first 2 films. On it's own it's not a bad film though. It has it's scary moments.
  • October 31, 2009
Alien 3 unfortunately has the same problem as terminator 3 that it has to be measured up against some of the best movies ever made. The effects are primitive and the way its shot is done in a different way to the other aliens, the story is still interesting but isnt as good as th...( read more)e first 2.

The third sequel to the movie Alien picks up with the ship from the second movie on its way back to Earth. Somehow some Alien eggs have been smuggled aboard the ship. They really don't explain how that happens, they just show it during the opening credits. When one of the eggs...( read more) hatches it causes malfunctions in the ship and the crew compartment is jettisoned into space and crashes on a nearby planet. This planet was a former penal colony with a lead mining operation and is now populated by former prisoners who have formed their own religion and who volunteered to stay behind. They were all sex offenders and didn't trust themselves to return to earth. The society of the ex-cons is more interesting than the Alien. One of the Aliens latches onto a dog and incubates in the dog. The new Alien takes on characteristics of the dog so it can run fast. It starts to kill the ex-convicts and they have to figure out how to kill it. There's an interesting twist at the end but some of the middle part of the movie is slow. The action picks up when they are hunting down the Alien. I also saw this movie in Midwest City, OK. It's a good movie but not as scary as the first movie and has less action than the second.

Those nasty critters always figure out a way to stay in Ripley's life, Not bad, but not Aliens either.

Tirando as cenas cliches... Muito bom o filme... Ainda perde para o 'Oitavo Passageiro' e para 'O Resgate'
  • October 9, 2009
I think this is my least favorite out of the series
  • October 3, 2009
What a fall from grace this film is; it spends way to long setting up the premise of the story, which by the way is quite a bore. The action falls flat and basically only involves people running around an old prison; The Alien is neither daunting or scary in this film; how it man...( read more)aged to ignore what made the first two so great I don't know. Now I have the long journey ahead because I still have Rescurrection to watch; and we all know that is worse than this one.
  • September 29, 2009
Not that bad. Some action and scary scenes save it.
  • September 28, 2009
Well this was gay, i guess good in view of being a low budget production.

In the special edition they have a buffalo as a host instead of the dog LOL confusing XD

and the filthy prisoners made me sick, especially Gollick.
  • September 21, 2009
Clearly the weaker of the franchise. David Fincher with his first and weaker film to date tried to merge the horror feel of Ridley Scott's original with the action of Cameron's sequel, but unfortunately for him, something just went off tracks. Nonetheless, he did a good job with...( read more) some camera movements, especially when seein the world through the eyes of the alien.
Alien 3 is not terrible, but doesn't quite live to the expectations one can draw after watching the first two. It's good Fincher recovered quite fast !!!!
  • September 16, 2009
An OK horror film, with good suspense, but ruined the Alien trilogy horribly. David Fincher's worst work so far. Even so, it's not so terrible; very enjoyable. How can you explain that this film has worse effects than the previous two, by the way?

    49/100
  • September 11, 2009
Damn, I had no idea this was directed by Fincher. Did not like this one, it just seemed to be a little much, kind of puts me off to seeing the 4th one, which I have heard is the worst.
  • September 9, 2009
