Anderson original by serving as a straight-up sci-fi horror scarefest. The aliens (and a predator) have landed on planet Earth, and small-town America is about to become the scene of an epic interstellar showdown. As these two breeds of cosmic killers clash in the small-town streets Gunnison, CO, the locals are sent running for their lives. From the murky sewers to the rain-soaked streets, Gunnison has become a total bloodbath. Nowhere is safe, especially from the unstoppable new hybrid known as the "predalien." Now, as the once-quiet community of Gunnison is overrun by Aliens, the only hope for humankind is a fierce hunter from the deepest reaches of space. But this predator is far from a benevolent savior of the human race, because he'll kill any man, woman, or child who gets in the way of his mission to destroy every last alien under these stormy Colorado skies. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem is a B movie that truly earns its B.

Ho, ho, ho -- the joke's on anyone who pays to see this.
-
Joe Leydon, Variety
Occasionally, the filmmakers reveal a cheeky willingness to upend genre conventions, particularly when bending the rules regarding who lives and who dies in this sort of pic.
-
Neil Genzlinger, New York Times
It may not be classic sci-fi like the original Alien, which it has in its DNA, but it's a perfectly respectable next step in the series.
-
Mark Olsen, Los Angeles Times
The action is rendered with such disconcertingly low light levels -- and of course there is heavy rain for the climatic sequences -- that it can be a strain to simply see what is occurring on-screen. Then again, maybe that's for the best.
-
Kirk Honeycutt, Hollywood Reporter
So lacking in imagination is this movie that the Brothers Strause and writer Shane Salerno keep scrambling back to the original movie for inspiration.
-
Matthew Pejkovic, Matt's Movie Reviews
Aliens VS Predator - Requiem is the second film in the over hyped and under performing crossover series, which brings nothing new to the table while tarnishing the franchises' original films.

Jeffrey Chen, Window to the Movies
In a word, repugnant.

blech. What a waste.

More violent, bloody extraterrestrial mayhem. Ick.

Well, it's official: the Road to Hell is pretty much paved over ... the Strause Brothers ... expressed their [good] intention to return to the dark, scary tone of 1979's Alien, yet Requiem is just about as bad as its 2004 predecessor.
-
Jurgen Fauth, JurgenFauth.com
Too underlit to qualify as splatter, too bloodless to qualify as fun, too unaware of its own idiocy to be enjoyed Grindhouse-style, AvP:R is a real education in the finer stratifications of badness.

Staci Layne Wilson, Horror.com
There's also [in the add'l release material] an informative look at the Predator Homeworld, which is something never before seen in any of the previous franchise offerings.

Does Alien vs. Predator: Requiem spell the end of the dual-monster franchise? Let's hope so

James O'Ehley, Sci-Fi Movie Page
The 'unrated' moniker may lead you to believe that there is a whole lot of extra gore in this DVD version as opposed to the theatrical cut. This is not the case.

I'm left wondering why I felt like I was watching two different movies that never quite came together as a parallel arc beyond the clunky "They're all fighting personal wars" motif...

Possibly good action movie and gorefest was hammpered by poor acting and one of the worst visually shot films in decades. Way too dark and almost impossible to make anything out. -

AVP 2 continues directly from the ending of the first film, with an alien/predator hybrid causing the ship to crash land back on Earth. A second ship is dispatched containing a kind of space-age alien cross between a CSI and Batman to clear up the resulting mess. The first film was dumb but fun, but I have to say I did not have high hopes for this one. At first it seemed that my fears were going to be justified because the first act of the film resembled a teen slasher flick more than anything else, complete with semi-clad nubile teens, people being picked off one by one in dark corridors and the inevitable pre-scares and false alarms. However, once the aliens hit the surface things got a LOT better. It "borrows" ideas heavily from other sources, notably Dawn Of The Dead and especially Aliens; a couple of scenes are lifted directly from it and the kick-ass mom protecting her young daughter is an obvious copy of Ripley. But it does it WELL. Despite the fact that the film can look a little too dark making it difficult to tell what's going on in places, it does look great and the fight sequences are very well done. The small town stereotypes are a little underwritten but as the violence gets more and more intense it gets better and better. Short on originality and suspense but long on blood spattered action, like Zack Snyder's remake of Dawn Of The Dead, AVP Requiem does not work as horror but for a shooting-monsters-with-big-guns sci-fi splatterfest it's a visceral, edge of the seat rollercoaster ride. -

I'll credit Requiem for bringing the much needed gore that Alien vs. Predator didn't deliver. But yes, it is pretty much the first film again and basically a very disorienting dull film otherwise anyway. Two rights have made a wrong yet again. -

OK OK now I'm the biggest fudging Predator fan around and I have been waiting for this baby. The first 'AvP' was a horrible disappointment but can I say this is a better film? somewhat, even though it still pales in comparison to the classic originals. Right..the predalien is somewhat of a mess I'm afraid, not well created or conceived in my opinion (oh how I wish Mr Winston was still on the scene) it brings back memories of the shitty looking human/alien hybrid from 'Alien Resurrection', not good. The start of the film is slow and uninteresting to be honest, the sequence where the predalien makes the predator ship crash is poor frankly and doesn't leave a positive feeling for the rest but it does get better to a degree. The predator has been slimmed down and looks and sounds much more to the original predator although the face is still not as good as the original, the blood and gore is on par and does look good, the face melting sequence is great. The battles between Alien and Pred are good, alittle short but still hit the mark, ('AvP' had good battles too) its probably the easiest thing to do as it will always look cool having an alien fight a predator. The story is really just your average tacky killer fodder flick, group of people you don't care about getting killed off one by one, totally cliched and lacking originality. The humans pointless, too easily taken down, young, dumb, faceless and running around needlessly, although I'm not here for the humans you of course need some reasonable cast to pull it together which this film lacks. Generally there is allot of 'Aliens' ripping going on, allot of very similar scenes, the army v aliens shootout is easily an attempted Cameron copy of the Marines first encounter in the bowels of the nuclear-powered atmosphere processing station on 'LV-426'. A little girl asking about monsters, the final escape to a chopper is both Aliens and Predator and some identical dialog used too but it does actually add to the film a little. All in all the problem is the two warring species aren't scary anymore, the two original films for the creatures were very scary and tense whilst this film is more of a cheap slasher with nameless characters, no proper plot build up and rushed. What they should do is a total war flick between aliens and preds with no humans, on the pred home world (which is still fully unrealised) or a predator outpost somewhere in the galaxy using just their own language. To really make things worse the whole film is so dark its actually very hard to make out what is going on, allot of gore and detail is virtually invisible down to the picture quality!! and this doesn't change for the DVD/BR releases either. Its just a reverse of the first AvP film, this time they got the Predator looking sweet and back in all his original glory but now they messed up the aliens by making them seem too obvious and creating a horrendous abomination in the hybrid, more funny than scary. Poster art is great yet highly deceiving folks ;) -

REQUIEM is considerably better than the original AVP movie, now with a well-deserved R rating, but this is still a pretty awful waste of time. (Note: I'm glad they name they characters and I didn't have to research their names.) -

Better than the first but still sucked. The storyline was more interesting than the first but it was still very boring. The cast was dull and uninteresting. The action and special effects were nothing great, or at least I thought so. This is a terrible movie but a better sequel. -

This film had the potential to be good, stupid, bloody fun, but unbearable and incomprehensible cinematography and lighting killed it. Skip this technical mess. -

Well, the first AVP film had a somewhat passable story, it just failed to deliver the goods in terms of great action and, most importantly, violence. Thjis film on the other hand, has no real story, no real context for why the shit that happens happens, but it gets the grade I'm giving it because it is stylish, the Predalien looks cool and is cool, it delivers (in spades) the violence and gore (and the effects look good, but, most importantly, even though this film does pretty much suck, it gets tons of points for the fact that it is unapologetically ballsy. This film pulls no punches, so, even though the writing, directing, and acting suck, the fact that some of the victims include a little kid and a pregnant women is a sign of courage, originality, and risk, and it is those thing that can mean a lot in the world of filmmaking. Of course, the mindlessness of it all wouldn't be there if we actually cared for anything that happens, so these shocking moments are pretty much hollow and devoid of any sort of merity other than ballsiness, but I was drunk when I saw this, so I'll let it slide. And plus, the film is entertaining, even if it sucks. It got some stuff right, even if, in the end it doesn't really mean a lot. At this point, you'll probably know if you wanna see this or not, so there ya go. Don't expect much except for some much needed gore and shock moments being brought back into the unioverse of aliens and predators. -

The first AvP was criticized for lack of gore and violence, the makers of this one promised some but didn't tell us that you needed Owl retinas capable of detecting it. It was action-packed for the most part though and the Aliens and Predators looked great. But overall it's a forgettable wasted opportunity... yet again. -

Much better than the first one still could have been alot better.I like the director's creativity in the story and wickedness at the end. Nice alien vs predator fights. Two Predators load several live Alien facehuggers and his dead comrade onto a ship, intending to return to the Predator homeworld. Unbeknown to him, the dead comrade was impregnated with an Alien before dying. The alien bursts from the corpse's chest, then quickly grows into a Predator-Alien hybrid (Tom Woodruff, Jr). The hybrid attacks the crew, killing them and forcing the ship to crash land in Gunnison, Colorado. Before one of the Predators is killed, he sends a distress call to the homeworld. His message is received by a Predator warrior (Ian Whyte) who immediately embarks on the journey to earth to rectify the situation. Meanwhile, the facehuggers escape from the crashed ship and impregnate a father and son hunting team (Kurt Max Runte and Liam James) and, later, two homeless men living in the sewer system. Dallas (Steven Pasquale) returns to Gunnison after a stint in the state penitentiary. He is picked up at the bus station by Morales (John Ortiz); Dallas and Morales used to be partners in crime, but Morales is now the county's sheriff. Also arriving home is Kelly (Reiko Aylesworth), after a tour of duty in Iraq. Her husband, Tim (Sam Trammel) is overjoyed to see her, but their daughter, Molly (Ariel Gade), is unsure of how to react to her mother's return. She does, however, enjoy the night-vision goggles Kelly brought home as a souvenir. Meanwhile, Dallas's younger brother Ricky (Johnny Lewis), is beaten up by Dale (David Paetkau) and his friends. Ricky has been flirting with Dale's girlfriend, Jesse (Kristin Hager). The fight is the last straw and Jesse breaks things off with Dale. She invites Ricky to go skinny-dipping with her at the high school's pool later that night. The Predator arrives and scavenges weapons from the downed vessel then destroys it. He uses an acid to destroy the corpses of the alien's current victims as well as the facehuggers he finds. When Deputy Ray stumbles upon the scene, the Predator kills him and skins his corpse. When Morales and Dallas find Ray's body, they realize that something horrible is stalking the town. The Predator tracks the aliens to the city's sewer system. He dispatches several but is caught off-guard by the Pred-Alien. The Pred-Alien and other aliens escape into the city and begin to attack the citizens. The Predator follows one to the city's nuclear power station. In the ensuing battle, the station is damaged and the city loses power. Morales realizes that the entire county is in danger and orders the town evacuated. He also requests National Guard assistance. The Pred-Alien realizes he can use fertile women to create hordes of aliens without needing facehuggers. At the local hospital, it injects alien larvae into all of the pregnant mothers in the maternity ward. Within hours, a small army of aliens has been created. At the high school, Ricky's swim date with Jesse is interrupted when Dale and his friends arrive and attack Ricky. Before they can drown him in the pool, an alien arrives and kills Dale's friends. Jesse, Ricky and Dale escape and find Morales and Dallas at the power station. They tell them what has happened, which Morales and Dallas largely confirm by visiting the school. They don't find any corpses, however, as the Predator has already been there to kill the alien and destroy the evidence. Morales, Dallas, Ricky, Jesse and Dale realize they need weapons to protect themselves and break into a local sporting goods store. They are joined by Kelly and Molly, who have been attracted by the flashing lights on Morales's squad car. Earlier, an alien had attacked their home, killing Tim. Morales makes contact with the arriving National Guardsmen. All he hears, however, is the sound of them being slaughtered by the aliens. Then aliens appear in the sporting goods store. However, the Predator has followed them there and kills the aliens. Dale's face is melted off by alien acid blood but the others escape. They make their way to the scene of the Guardsmen slaughter. Kelly knows how to drive the tanks, so they all climb in. Morales contacts Col. Stevens (Robert Joy), who tells them to head to the center of town to be airlifted out of town. However, the plan is not to airlift anyone to safety but instead to use the townspeople as bait to draw the aliens to one area and then destroy everyone with a small nuclear bomb. Kelly realizes that they will all die if they do as Stevens tells them but Morales doesn't believe her. When they encounter a number of other people headed towards the center of town, Morales joins them; Kelly, Molly, Dallas, Ricky and Jesse head for the hospital, where they will use the med-evac helicopter to fly to safety. The hospital is overrun with aliens, and the Predator arrives to destroy them. Making their way up the stairs, the humans run into the middle of a Predator-Alien battle. Jesse is impaled by the Predator's flying daggers. Enraged, Ricky attacks the Predator with a machine gun but before the Predator can kill him, the aliens knock it down an elevator shaft. Ricky is wounded but will live. The Predator leaves behind a pulse rifle, which Dallas picks up. They make their way to the roof, but aliens block their path to the helicopter. As Dallas uses the pulse rifle to hold off the aliens, Kelly gets the helicopter started. Just as the aliens are about to surround and kill Dallas, the Predator arrives and kills off the remaining aliens. Dallas boards the helicopter and they fly away as the Predator and Pred-Alien duel to the death. At the center of town, the humans are surrounded by aliens. Looking up to the skies in hopes of seeing rescue helicopters, Morales instead sees a jet fighter drop a bomb; he realizes Kelly was right as the town and all of the remaining aliens are incinerated, including the Predator and Pred-Alien who are locked in each other's death grip. Kelly manages to pilot the helicopter to a fairly safe crash landing. They are surrounded by other Guardsmen who disarm them and provide medical care to Ricky. They confiscate the Predator pulse rifle from Dallas. Col. Stevens takes the Predator pulse rifle to Ms. Yutani (Francoise Yip). She tells him that the earth is not ready for the technology it represents. Col. Stevens knows Yutani doesn't want the technology to be used on earth. -

Okay, coming from a massive Alien predator fan, this film is 10 / 10 for action sequences and explosions and gore scenes. Storyline is somewhat another matter, it carry's on straight from the first film AVP, but it ties in the time line that consists of Predator 1 and 2, but not the Alien saga. At the end of AVPR the colonel handed over the predators gun to a lady called Miss YUTANI, who combined with Bishop Weyland, gives you the Company WEYLAND YUNTANI which is in Aliens, Ali3n and Alien Resurrection, the company that owns LV - 426 in aliens. AVPR Explains who Yutani is, cause in Aliens you don't know much about it apart from they have contract under the military. With AVPR Ending as it did, Hollwood could to take up on itself to remake Alien, which in someway can carry on from AVPR and connect all Alien and Predator films all in 1 exciting saga. -

The Predator has never been more interesting and really becomes the character we all love. -

As the Aliens and Predators are taking their personal feud to current time Earth, of course humans are getting in the way. The movie tries hard to be as politically incorrect as possible, making kids, even pregnant women and babies the victims. That sometimes does not make much sense and is just shock for the shock's sake. The film is not boring and there is action non-stop. It's just all not very original, and often feels like a deja-vu. Most of the characters are so flat, you don't really care of they make it or not. Of course, the movie's excitement level suffers from that severely. The franchise of the two monsters deserve much better films than this. -
