deeply uncomfortable movie, but a bit long
I totally asked my wife out for the first time because she reminded me of Sigourney Weaver!
One of the most essential horror movies. It makes aliens more scary then they ever were before. The space element and claustrophobia is a perfect touch to an already perfect story. Sigourney Weaver and the rest of the cast did a great job at being a believable group of friends an...( read more)
Absolutely ingenius, a stroke of brilliance from Ridley Scott. Alien is a revolutionary movie, one of the first to make sci-fi as though it is part of real life in the future. One of the most celebrated thrillers in history, Alien is a must see for any self-respecting movie enthu...( read more)
Riddley Scott's first truly great film, which has become an icon for the sci-fi horror genre, is distinguished by its uniqueness in dark storyteling and for its horror and suspense back in the 70's.
90/100
Um... I don't really get the hype with this movie maybe i'm missing something. However it was slow, a tad confusing in places and so not scary. Good performances but it was not what I expected.
Still ranked as one of the greatest sci-fi horrors ever captured on celluloid. The list of reasons for this is exhaustive: the iconic, eponymous alien; the stunning set design; the theme of gender reversal; the rich characterisation and superb acting; the twists; and so on (as I s...( read more)
1 Hour and 57 Minutes of my life was spent watching this movie...... BEST GOD DAMN 1 HOUR AND 57 MINUTES OF MY LIFE
The debate rages - Alien or Aliens? - well, if its horror you desire, choose Scott's Alien. Explores human sexual politics and the inherent monster with classical chills and thrills.
Although I prefer the sequel, Aliens, the original is much more frightening. The movie is so eerie and tense. All the actors are always sweating, things look so dank that you can almost smell the mold and grime. Still holds up even to this day.
A classic sci-fi/horror film magnificently directed by Ridley Scott, which contains one of the most original and terrifying screen monsters in the history of the cinema. A top-notch cast with a young Sigourney Weaver giving a striking performance in her iconic role of Ellen Riple...( read more)
Oh god, this film was so slow. It's so boring at the start. The second half was entertaining. The acting was nothing special and the plot had no substance. The design of the alien was good. It looked cool and scary. They did manage to scare you with the alien and I never usually ...( read more)
Here Monster Monster Monster
The Alien is now one of the classic Movie Monsters right along with King Kong, Godzilla, Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolf Man and the Creature From The Black Lagoon. The movie blends an old fashion monster horror movie with science fiction. The basic s...( read more)
This film had me on the edge of my seat when i watched it in the cinema....the 2003 re-release not the 1979 release. I wasnt born yet :) Nothing happens for about 40 minutes or so, but once the alien is aboard it becomes terrifying and has a claustrophobic feel to it. I can imagi...( read more)
A classic, is a pity that I can't ever again watch it for the first time. I remember when I didn't knew wtf an alien was.... great suspense! Great special effects for the time it was shot.
A pretty solid sci-fi thriller, perhaps a bit dated in it's effects but still able to grab you by the gut.
By today's standards it ok needs some work but by yesterday's standards, it is great really creepy.
Great movie the special effects, acting, and plot hold up really well against todays movies even though it was filmed 30 years ago. Very well done
As atmospheric as the exorcist and as shocking as the grudge, this movie is a classic sparking the alien series it has some of the great horror clichés in it but still tops a lot of what we see today.
It was damn good. Not as scary as I would have thought given all I have heard.
This movie set the standard for scarey in sci-fi and has yet to be bested.
CAN'T SAY THAT I'VE SEEN THIS ONE EITHER :-( OR AT LEAST I DON'T REMEMBER IT...
The best Alien film ever made (I don't just mean this perticular franchise either)
A true sci fi masterpeice, Alien is as exciting and thrilling film as you'll ever see.
