This is probably my favorite of the alien flicks.

One of the most essential horror movies. It makes aliens more scary then they ever were before. The space element and claustrophobia is a perfect touch to an already perfect story. Sigourney Weaver and the rest of the cast did a great job at being a believable group of friends an...( read more)d it really mattered when someone got picked off. It has amazing sets and impeccable style, some of the best work Ridley Scott has done.

Absolutely ingenius, a stroke of brilliance from Ridley Scott. Alien is a revolutionary movie, one of the first to make sci-fi as though it is part of real life in the future. One of the most celebrated thrillers in history, Alien is a must see for any self-respecting movie enthu...( read more)siast..

Riddley Scott's first truly great film, which has become an icon for the sci-fi horror genre, is distinguished by its uniqueness in dark storyteling and for its horror and suspense back in the 70's.

    90/100

Um... I don't really get the hype with this movie maybe i'm missing something. However it was slow, a tad confusing in places and so not scary. Good performances but it was not what I expected.

Still ranked as one of the greatest sci-fi horrors ever captured on celluloid. The list of reasons for this is exhaustive: the iconic, eponymous alien; the stunning set design; the theme of gender reversal; the rich characterisation and superb acting; the twists; and so on (as I s...( read more)aid, exhaustive).

There's a reason why certain films disregard age and persevere, and it's simply because the original vision has yet to be matched, let alone surpassed.

    Alien is such a film.

The debate rages - Alien or Aliens? - well, if its horror you desire, choose Scott's Alien. Explores human sexual politics and the inherent monster with classical chills and thrills.
  • October 27, 2009
Although I prefer the sequel, Aliens, the original is much more frightening. The movie is so eerie and tense. All the actors are always sweating, things look so dank that you can almost smell the mold and grime. Still holds up even to this day.

Awesome sci fi horror! One of the best of its genre!

Oh god, this film was so slow. It's so boring at the start. The second half was entertaining. The acting was nothing special and the plot had no substance. The design of the alien was good. It looked cool and scary. They did manage to scare you with the alien and I never usually ...( read more)get scared by those. The cinematography with the monster was done well and the atmosphere they created with the music was top notch. This is a classic sci-fi, but it's nothing that I would reccomend so highly. It gets really slow and boring at parts, and the fnale was really crappy. However, there is some enjoyment to be found.

    Here Monster Monster Monster
The Alien is now one of the classic Movie Monsters right along with King Kong, Godzilla, Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolf Man and the Creature From The Black Lagoon. The movie blends an old fashion monster horror movie with science fiction. The basic s...( read more)tory was stolen from "IT! The Terror From Beyond Space". An alien monster stows away aboard an earth ship and kills the crew one by one. In Alien the crew brings the monster aboard on secret orders from the "company". Along with Star Wars, these movies of the 1970's were the first movies to show a science fiction world that wasn't clean and pristine. The characters wear real cloths not some futuristic color coordinated jump suits. The ship has grease and steam. It's dark and spooky. But, why didn't she leave that cat behind? And how did the Alien get so big? What did it eat to get that big? Overall though it is a good movie that all fans of science fiction and horror movies should watch. The special effects are good except for the one scene were they use the mechanical Alien. The end of the movie we get to see Sigourney Weaver in a pair of bikini panties that barely cover her ass, just enough to push the movie from PG to R. I first saw this movie at the Cowboy Mall in Stillwater OK just north of the OSU campus. I went with a group of my D&D friends. When the Harry Dean Stanton character went looking for the cat and said "Here kitty kitty kitty", the guy next to me leaned over and said "Here Monster Monster Monster".

This film had me on the edge of my seat when i watched it in the cinema....the 2003 re-release not the 1979 release. I wasnt born yet :) Nothing happens for about 40 minutes or so, but once the alien is aboard it becomes terrifying and has a claustrophobic feel to it. I can imagi...( read more)ne in the origional how uncomfortable people must of been watching this for the first time. Its a masterpiece. When the chestburster scene came up it was a brilliant piece of directing by telling the actors very little about what was going to happen in the scene. You got the real reaction from the actors and the audience at the same time. Creepy, intense, claustrophobic, and worth every penny to make.

Great movie the special effects, acting, and plot hold up really well against todays movies even though it was filmed 30 years ago. Very well done
  • September 22, 2009
As atmospheric as the exorcist and as shocking as the grudge, this movie is a classic sparking the alien series it has some of the great horror clichés in it but still tops a lot of what we see today.
