All About Eve Reviews and Ratings

Probably Bette's most famous role - and rightly so! Robbed of the Oscar for this one, you can watch this again and again and, every time, find something different in Bette's performance. Every part played to perfection by a stellar supporting cast - including Marilyn Monroe in ...( read more)her first role in a major picture, and the divine Thelma Ritter who steals each scene she's in! The real star, though, is the script - second to none, in my opinion.

    THE most amazing movie ever

Good movie about the theatre, and the backstabbing it takes to get to the top

Unfortunately, Bette Davis will never be an idol of any kind in my eyes and certainly isn't deserving of any kind of merit.

Her roles are sleezy despite the jazz like quality, and much like Monroe or West, she simply can't act - even by their standings.

One of the best scripts of all times, it also features some amazing performances, particularly from Bette Davis and George Sanders. It's about the people who will do anything to get ahead, and the ruthlessness of the stage.

Although I was ready to strangle the character of Eve by the end of the film, this movie was incredible. The lines are excellently delivered and carry the film. Bette Davis shines by portraying an extremely cynical star who is not afraid of simply telling it like it is. I also lo...( read more)ve how the ending ties everything together and implies of what is to come.

The real world of theatre. I have never seen a film with such brilliant dialogue as All About Eve. A classic story with unbelieveable revelations of backstage betrayal. "Fasten your seatbelts. It's going to be a bumpy night." The ultimate in Sophisticated performances, especially...( read more) by Davis and the great critic Sanders. Forget all the snappy dialogue in other films, this film has the monopoly.

If wit were a natural resource, this movie could power the country.

I can see why this is a classic movie. The entire cast turns in fantastic performances, the script is intriguing, the story is compelling... And yet with all that I can't find a *whole* lot to say about it. It was quite generally good, but I can't think of anything specific to sa...( read more)y about it. No clue what that means about the movie, or about me. Maybe after another viewing I'd be able to come back and add a few more thoughts.

Ingenious screenwriting! The roles played by not only Davis (who was absolutely fantastic), but also Anne Baxter as well (really, who didn't hate her by the end?) were brilliant, though I must admit to likeing the conniving, fire-tongued Mr. DeWitt almost as much.
