Ah, when Bette Davis was glamorous, before Baby Jane. Introduced Marilyn Monroe. Very good movie.
Wonderful... my only reservation is the Davis/Holm scene in the car during the storm: women born around that time or after, like myself, will probably squirm, as I always do...
A great film that I underappreciate. The film is definitely true to the title though.
Along with Sunset Boulevard, this is one of the all time great classics which dares to take a look behind the curtain of Hollywood. The script is sharp and quick and provides a glaring look at the spotlight of fame. Bette Davis gives, in my opinion, her greatest performance here,...( read more)
In all the years that I have watched movies, is there a more tighter, well-written, sophisticated
and witty motion picture?
Abosolutely NOT!
The likes of Ben Stiller and the Farrelly brothers need to watch this before they make another one of their terrible comedies.

you can't always get what you want, can you dahlink? estrogen heat set on high, hold on tight, it's goin' to be...alright, you heard it before
Unfolds like a stage play (appropriately enough) with a legendary performance from Bette Davis.
I thought this was an excellent movie! I haven't seen alot of Bette Davis movies but I think I will see more. I also enjoyed watching Anne Baxter turn from seemingly innocent to a manipulative witch!
Bette at her best, but I especially love Anne Baxter as the younger threat.
Oh, the beauty! Hollywood at its best. It's got the script, it's got the groove, it's most certainly got the performances - many hails to Anne Baxter!
Scheming bitches in black and white. A great screenplay. Comeuppance galore.
Absolute must see-Bette Davis is wicked-Anne Baxter a delightful back-stabbing bitch! And of course-Marilyn :)
this is what the theater is all about. i love the whitty tounge-lashings handed out by bette davis.
I loved thsi movie. A very ambitious actress who would do anything to be a star, ANYTHING!!!
Plus an early role for Marilyn Monroe.
A creepy and cruel look at show business, and a hell of fight between bitches.
Loved all the great performances, specially Bette Davis, who steals all the movie.
To comment on how witty this movie really is, would be like peeling a fruit that had no skin to peel.
this is bette's smartest movie. she just sizzles. i live the banter between all the characters. it is so sharp and all are delivered with a juicy vibrancy that just crackles with electricity. not to be missed!
I absolutely loved this movie, very interesting to watch this young Bette Davis play against her opponent Anne Baxter. The plot was good, the cast lovely. Didn't miss sex or violence, the sign of a truly well-made movie!
My number 2 favorite movie of all time. Bette Davis is a god in this movie. Her portrayal of Margot Channing is the best acting I've ever seen. The screenplay is absolutely fantastic and the direction is near perfect. This is a must see for anyone who loves movies. It's truly great.
This is one of my favourite films ever.
Bette Davis is incredible - such a complex character but extremely well played.
Anne Baxter is also excellent - she plays her character well enough to manipulate the viewer as well as the people around her.
Amazing movie! Hilarious, classy...( read more)
the incomparable davis in one of her best ever, known for its sharp wit and smooth underlying tones of betrayal and insult its probably the first example of a "dramedy" ever presented, an amazing cinematic feat
bette davis is still the queen of acting! meh who can disagree with that?!? wel maybe meryl streep is the queen of acting PRESENTLY, but.. bette WAS the queen! mwahaha!
