It was interesting but there is always one part that is just biting me. If Paul got in trouble with his teacher for drawing a bird in class, why would you draw a bird when you are about to participate in trench warfare. But it was sad that he died just days from WWI ending.
i watched a bit but fell asleep...it wasn't really boring it was ok but i don't think i'd watch it again unless it just happened 2 be on tv or sumthing
Oscar Winning Performance by Borgnine cheated because of the "rules", as this film was shown as a TV Movie in the US and a Movie in the rest of the world, the classic "Cliff-Notes" version for those who were not forced to read the book in school is compelling and closer to the book than the earlier version. Sir Lew Grade, of that generation, spared no expense to "get it right", and so many years & wars on, tells the specifically timeless tale of the horrors of WW1 (gas attacks, trench warfare, mindless Prussian militarisim which was to return under Hitler, etc)...Veterans will appreciate the gritty realisim...This may be the only war-oriented "date movie" you can watch with your babe of choice, assuming she has enough brains to deal with the materiel....Not to be missed...(PS: I created a skin dedicated to this film)...
A confronting and realistic look into conditions on the Western Front, and the disillusionment of young German soldiers who wish to taste adventure and battle but are confronted with death and destruction. Good acting, sometimes it moves too slow, but a standout film on the war genre.
I saw this movie years ago. All Quiet on the Western Front is my all time favorite book. I have to admit though, I liked the original movie from the 1930s better.
Not a movie you want to watch if you're depressed and having a sleepless night... trust me. It's depressing, but happens to be one of my favourite books. I haven't seen the other versions of the film, but did think this was okay. Was a bit weird seeing John Boy in a different role... but once you get past that it's okay.
