I love this movie. I have always been interested in writing and journalism, but this movie made me relive the dreams of writing about the big stories of political scandals, you know, the usual. Anyways, Hoffman and Redford are perfect in their respective roles and creates the perfect sense of righteousness and obsession these two men had in their quest to get the truth when no one else wanted to. A classic of the '70s.

All the President's Men is a political thriller. Unlike typical political thrillers this one is based on a true event- the burglary of Democratic National headquarters at the Watergate office complex. The film shows the long road that Bob Woodward (Robert Redford) and Carl Bernstein (Dustin Hoffman) traveled to get from a simple botched burglary to one of the greatest government conspiracy in U.S. history.

Redford and Hoffman were at their peak and not doing crap back in 1976. Their performances are riveting, especially since most of the film they are on the phone. They keep the film alive while showing some of the ho-hum life of a newspaper reporter. The best portrayal is Jason Robards as Ben Bradlee, the editor of the Washington Post. Robards won the Oscar for this role and he gives it the old school life and charm and no bullshit attitude that you would expect out of this character (Robards has been commended for nailing Bradlee even though they never met). A stellar performance.

Most people associate the Watergate break-in as Nixon's folly and that two reporters toppled a Presidency because of it. This film gives the details of how long and wide the road was to Nixon quitting in 1974. There was more to this than a simple burglary. All the President's Men shows this while not boring the audience by dryly going through the facts. The characters have life breathed into them and that's what makes the film so great.

I was sitting next to a professor who proclaimed it was one of his favorites. He laughed during parts where I guess someone who's seen more than once would've or maybe it just comes with the age factor. Well anywho, I've heard it was a great film and not a bad looking cast... jk

Anyways, yeah there was bad-lighting but the writing was Funny, it kept you engaged until the end- even if you didn't know the story of watergate or remembered the lesson in highschool, you left wanting to at least google watergate...

    p.s.

great acting by the leading men!

Accusations that this film are dated are totally overlooking the fact that this is one of the films great strengths. The look and style of the film are that of a classic seventies thriller and so it should be. That the director can make two reporters taking loads of notes and making loads of phone calls so intense is a credit to him and it doesn't hurt that the two leads Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford are cracking actors at the top of the game. Anyone put of by the labyrinthian plot and in-depth study of the American Government can simply give up trying to follow whats going on and enjoy it for what it is. A classic.

I'd recommend this movie, but with warnings attached to this! Firstly, Redford and Hoffman were at their best during the 1970's and their performances don't disappoint, I'm sure that they also depicted their respected characters Woodward and Bernstein very well too as they both come across as very believable as reporters or at least the stereotype version. The unkept tardy look, untidy apartments, smoking, corduroy trousers, fast food and neck ties hanging down with unbuttoned collar an shirt

Also, For any foreigner who is interested in American political science, there are about six historical events that dominate US history. To most objective historians the declaration of independence, the US civil war and it's aftermath, the 'New Deal', the defeat of the axis powers in WWII, civil rights or even the collapse of the Soviet empire and the Berlin wall would be tops. However to the American baby-boomer generation, it is JFK's assassination, anti-Vietnam war movement, Woodstock, Richard Nixon's forced resignation and Bill Clinton's come from behind win against George Bush in 1992. Therefore 'All the president's men' is a nostalgic trip down memory lane

Although it's well paced and it keeps your attention, the film flounders at various levels because the whole unraveling of events and the various connections between the burglars link to CREEP (campaign to reelect the president) and their link to members of Nixons inner circle is not clear. Consequently, the movie ends what appears to be in January of 1973 but Nixon resigned 18 months later? They should have jumped forward to that point before the movie finished. The viewer is left completely confused and frustrated.

hard to believe sometimes that this kind of sensationally intriguing detective story actually happened. a very well-made film highlighting the rollercoaster investigation of one of the 20th century's great political scandals. Redford and Hoffman make a terrific but unlikely screen duo and the supporting cast is just as strong. excellent cinematography and use of stock footage as well.

I'm sorry, but this movie is BORING! And no, I'm not the kind of moviegoer who has to be watching explosions in order to be entertained. If you take a good look at my ratings and reviews, that should be apparent. This is just a boring, boring movie, and that's all I can say, really.

Given the state of national politics today, the Watergate scandal seems kind of tame. Nevertheless, the break in at Democratic National Headquarters, and the subsequent cover up, was the only event to ever bring down an American President. Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein dug into the story that no one else in the nation wanted to have anything to do with. Their efforts shed light on the biggest political scandal of all time. Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman play the dedicated reporters, and they play them to perfection. They are surrounded by a stellar cast including Jack Warden, Ned Beatty, Hal Holbrook, and Jason Robards in his Academy Award winning role as newspaper editor Ben Bradlee. The movie is so authentic in its depiction of newspaper life, it is even shown in journalism classrooms to show budding reporters how its done. Even though you know the outcome of the movie, you can't help but be drawn in as Woodward and Bernstein dive deeper and deeper into they mystery. It's a completely absorbing movie led by two great actors at the top of their games.

I became really enthralled by this movie, as the whole Watergate scandal develops through the eyes of Woodward and Bernstein. The problem with the film is, though, that since it was released so close to the actual events, they didn't do a very good job fully informing the audience who the names that were being bandied about were. So now, over 30 years later, I had difficulty following the whodunnit type of stuff. Also, the ending does seem a little rushed which is again likely due to everyone at the time of release already knowing the events that the movie shows scrolling across the typewriter.

The movie is pulled off very well despite the difficulty with keeping all of the names and occupations in order. The acting is very solid and the comic relief keeps the viewers interested with this serious subject movie.

It's a pretty romanticized telling of the investigation of Watergate.

It's pretty intriguing and there's a few laughs along the way. I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

This movie is a very good look on how something like a break in can snowball and eventually lead to the downfall of the president of the United States. Both Hoffman & Redford are good in the lead roles. The way the story unravels keeps the viewer interested throughout the film.

the greatest political thriller ever made. I love and respect this movie because in an uncanny way it glorifies the free press in america. The story becomes even more remarkable when one considers the fact that it is based on a true story.

yeah, long. and not super fast cut and stuff. But I liked it, this investigating story, fast acting of Dustin and cutie Redford face. Tho a waste that Prince of Darkness made cinematography, it's not even half as good as other of his filmsss

Nice depiction of the Watergate scandal that finished Nixon. Also Dustin Hofman and Robert Redford look cute in their younger days. The story is well known and yet the movie talks only about the underlying investigation hence is v interesting. Must see I wld say.
