Starts well, then it becomes the usual feel-good-cliche-fest that Crowe loves to make. The supporting cast helps a lot, except Kate Hudson that is, that woman should not be allowed to work in movies ever again.

This movie shows a lot of passion.I think everyone should watch this movie.

a film that gets a bit silly at moments but provides some great introspection and clever moments. the music is great and the characters are played well. a solid film.

dramatic comedy starring Patrick Fugit, Kate Hudson, Billy Crudup, Jason Lee, Frances McDormand and Philip Seymour Hoffman. written and directed by Cameron Crowe.

when fifteen-year-old William Miller (Fugit) is given the opportunity to write an essay on Black Sabbath for Cree...( read more)m Magazine, the aspiring rock journalist attends the band's concert in an attempt to interview Ozzy and the boys. however, when he is denied access and about ready to walk away, it is the new band on the scene, Stillwater, that helps him get his foot in the door. while there, he meets a group of female fans that call themselves Band-Aides, who follow Stillwater and the other music greats around the world. he quickly befriends the leader of the group, Penny Lane (Hudson) and soon finds himself on the road with the band and an assignment from Rolling Stone Magazine. along the way, the teenager becomes a man, learning about music, friendship and love.

first thing that comes to mind when I hear the words Almost Famous? great script and amazing music. Crowe really out-did himself with this one, taking his own experiences as a teen rock journalist for Rolling Stone Magazine and making this beautiful film. and the music... it really is one of the best soundtracks in a long time.

one of my favorite films of all time. I love love love this film! ♥

" Rock stars have kidnapped my son!"- Elaine Miller

The movie made alcohols, drugs and rock stars as sweet as muffins and cakes. It was very ironic. I thought it is something with heavy of everything but not with drama and laughter. But it was. There was a feeling of hap...( read more)piness and optimism after the film. It teaches us one of the greatest lesson in life which is uncertainty. The story was striking. It actually hit me for 2 hours. I felt like I am a member of the Stilwater. Everything that happens to anyone of them you can also feel .Everyone in the cast was different. Each and everyone of them was different, even the band aids. It is such a feel-good movie. Very simple but striking.

Great movie. I loved the story and all the characters. Cameron Crowe once again provides us with a soundtrack that give us moments of inspiration, hope and heartbreak. Almost Famous is highly enjoyable, and always worth multiple viewings.

Good film, was surprised I liked it as I can?t generally stand Cameron Crowe films. Great cast too!

The soundtrack alone had me hooked. A great look into the thriving music scene of the 1970's and what goes on behind the scenes without being too sleazy. It shows little, but leaves a lot to the imagination. You feel the bond from the characters as they argue, love and even break...( read more) up. William (Patrick Fugit) is the strongest character and pretty much controls the entire movie. His love for Penny Lane (Kate Hudson) and how he tries to be close to her is sweet. She really does have that electric presence here. Hudson has the smile to hypnotise on sight. The Elton John sing-a-long scene on the bus is heartfelt. It captures the comradery the band has for eachother when they're not arguing.

The character that really had me impressed was rock journalist Lester Bangs (Philip Seymour Hoffman). He had some of the best dialogue in the film. The only thing I didn't like about him was when he put down Jim Morrison and called him a drunken buffoon posing as a poet. But, he did throw some nice references towards Iggy Pop. He redeemed himself a little there. Jim Morrison was actually a great poet and rather intelligent. To dismiss him off as being a drunk is hypocritical. Most bands in the 60's and 70's were heavily induced on drugs and alcohol. Just because he wasn't shy about his addictions, doesn't make him a poser. But, back to the film, William was actually the life of directer Cameron Crowe back when he was touring with Led Zeppelin and Lynyrd Skynyrd. He was also a writer for Rolling Stone, just like William. To actually have the directer in the 1970's music world and express it so lavishly is quite amazing.

fantastic music. not too keen of the wannabe groupie movie.
  • September 15, 2009
Many guys worship this film because it is genius, looks like I didn't get it. I disliked it though... It forcedly tries to be smart and cool at the same time, but Cameron Crowe was not the adequate guy to accomplish such pretentious task. Enjoyable, to say the least.

  • September 6, 2009
A great film with an insight into the world of rock and roll. There is much to admire about this film, namely the superb acting from all the cast but in particular, Fugit, Hudson and McDormand. Great story but perhaps goes on for a little too long.
  • August 29, 2009
Cameron Crowe's semi-autobiographical looks at rock journalism in the 70's is a completely fresh and absolutely amazing film. The cast is superb as well as the awesome soundtrack that any classic rock fan can enjoy. Almost famous is one of the best movies I have ever seen.

fantabulous. also, patrick fugit is freakin' adorable.
  • August 23, 2009
Semi-autobiographical look back at the world of rock 'n roll as it existed in the early 1970s, though as background elements to a coming-of-age story. The screenplay sparkles with wit and intelligence, the protagonist is effectively underplayed by Patrick Fugit, while Kate Hudson...( read more) gives a luminous star turn. With a musical score of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Neil Young, Iggy & The stooges and David Bowie (+ more) you´re pretty much at home already at that. But the fiction band Stillwater actually works as well, It's just the main boy charachter that feels a bit boring.
  • August 21, 2009
I didn't love it as much the second and third time around, but it's still a very good movie with great music! The quietness of Kate Hudson's role is amazing, and also something I don't think she'll ever be able to do again.

I like to rewatch my favourites from time to time....and this has always been in my top five. Kate Hudson at her best as Penny Lane. Philip Seymour Hoffman is a revelation as Lester Bangs. Sex, drugs, Rock n' Roll. This movie is a blast!

Well I wasn't hugging myself but Almost Famous is a good non-annoying feel-good depiction that has some interesting moments but it seems that it doesn't dare to dig further & decieds to keep the feel-good atmosphere until the end, Avoiding some disastrous cliches near the end sa...( read more)ves the movie from sinking

FEEEEEVER DOOOGG!!! The song is stuck in my head now! Well, putting Kate Hudson's cute face on the cover is what got me to see it, sex really does sell. I was surprised to see that her role was a supporting one however, a marketing tactic to sell the movie. Still, a good film non...( read more)etheless. The relationship developed between William and the band, his mother, and with the Band-Aid's were all told and expressed quite intelligently and professionally. I enjoyed reading the non-verbal communication between the characters, for instance the looks Kate Hudson and Billy Crudup would give each other. I wish I got to see a little more of Zooey Deschanel though, I guess she was still on the rise, and maybe still is, not an immediate realization to the common movie goer when her name is recognized. It's amazing how you just name a movie and people go, "Oh yeah! That girl!" ... ... ... ... the love interest to Jim Carey in "Yes Man" ... "Oh yeah! That girl!"
  • August 5, 2009
Classic film about sex, drugs and rock n roll!
  • August 2, 2009
One of the bests of all time, and I think the best of Cameron Crowe...
  • August 2, 2009
Too much of a teen flick and not enough of a eye-opening rock flick. I think Almost Famous could have been brilliant, with a really fun premise and enough of a promising story. For me, it's a just too cheesy and a little forced. When you're dealing with something based on real li...( read more)fe experience, why must it be recreated in such a stale and Hollywood way?

Crowe seemed content with this, so the film doesn't really pick-up, and the story ends up pretty average with some fun, but ultimately unsatisfying parts, riding out the time. More passion, a different cast and a few tweaks and this movie would be a favourite.

I generally try my best to not see things completely in black and white, not to be biased, and to be accomodating and not too rigid in my views, but all these admirable aims fall by the wayside when it comes to Kate Hudson - I CAN'T STAND HER!!!
I can't stand her in utterly shit...( read more)ty movies, where she is meant to be an irritating and ditzy and slutty bimbette (or thats what I view her as, because, I'm sorry, but attempting to cast her as anything resembling a strong and intelligent and morally upstanding woman is pushing it), and I definately can't stand her in this movie, a move which I may have actually loved had she not had such a huge role (and a role which involved me envisioning the lucky slag humping the metaphorical movie versions of the likes of Jimmy Page and Jim Morrison :(
    Good points about this film:
-Frances Mcdormand was, as is expected, AMAZING!
-Zooey Deschanel is pretty rad, even though it sucked she didn't get more screen time.
-The soundtrack was VERY VERY cool...Lots of Zep, LOTS of Zep...Which is always good.
-Jason Lee was amazing as the jealous frontman.
-Billy Crudup and the kid that was obsessed with Zep are HOT!
MORE bad points about this film:
-Just in case I haven't made it abbundantly clear, I HATE KATE HUDSON!!!
-For the first time in my life I watched a movie in which both Billy Crudup and Phillip Seymour Hoffman bugged the bejeezus out of me.
-The main character kid just bugged me, as did that idiot from Rolling Stone with the funny accent; Jimmy Fallon in disguise (although his heinous accent was difficult to disguise and I would recognise its irritating tone anywhere), and the manager guy.
-All the Jim bashing that went on - NOT COOL!!!
Everybody should, at some point in there life, watch this movie - its kind of a right of passage, so you might as well get it over with...

Fantastic coming-of-age road movie with a neat rock 'n' roll slant. Good, if slightly hokey, story and fantastic soundtrack make for a very entertaining film from Cameron Crowe.

THE BEST. It totally captured the era in american history. Every single acting performance was spot on in this True story with the names changed to protect the "innocent". A charming road story of a young man realizing what's out in the world. The soundtrack is also unbelievable.
