A very good film based on true events, as a group of young wannabe gangsters take things too far. A great performance from all of the young assembled cast. A lot better than you would expect from such young actors. Well worth checking out.

A good but sad story with great performances all around make this movie! Ben Foster can do no wrong! I only had a couple of problems with this film, it left me with some unanswered questions but they're only minor things. This was a good film though.

A lot better than I expected with a cast featuring Justin Timberlake. Ben Foster I think landed on my favorite actors list after this preformance.

This is the sort of movie you watch after you get a call from your sister and her drunk friend at 2 and pick them up and realize you're too energetic now to fall asleep but don't feel like doing anything remotely intellectually stimulating. I only watched this for Emile Hirsch wh...( read more)

The true life story of a young drug dealer who kidnaps the younger brother of a fellow gangster in order to make him pay his debts. As grim as that sounds, most of the film's light tone and constant frat style partying makes it look more like Almost Famous with wannabe gangsters....( read more)

Was more good than it was bad. The "twists" in the story were pretty expected, however the acting wasn't too bad. Whe knew JT could look so scuzzy.

This one of those films that I swerved as I doubted that it would be any good with Willis and Timberlake. At the moment I'm stuck in a holiday home with only 4 channels and BBC showed it. I like it when a film suprises me, and this did just that. This awful story is about loyalty...( read more)
Critic Reviews
There are in fact no bad performances in this picture. The events depicted are often ugly and sometimes repulsive, but Cassavetes never flinches from depicting them fully full review
Recovering from the Harlequin bathos of The Notebook, writer-director Nick Cassavetes directs this bogus-homeboy scenario as though his street cred depended on it. full review
Cassavetes -- a sometime actor himself -- doesn't seem to understand actors at all. From the finished product, it looks as if his preferred method of guiding his actors is to egg them on rather than n... full review

There's more voyeurism going on here, and less insight into a certain culture (the young and the wasted), than the filmmakers would probably admit to, but the performances are scarily real, and the ou... full review
Rather than turn the camera away when disaster strikes, [director Cassavetes] keeps his suffering characters in close, uninterrupted focus, pushing us squarely into their pain. full review

November 7, 2008Having just seen this, I have to say I was disappointed (sorely; read my 1.5 star review!)... Justin Timberlake proved himself a potentially strong young actor in Craig Brewer's brilliant "Black Snake Moan" (2007) but then managed to make me think that's a fluke on the basis of this... Junk, junk, junk...

August 24, 2007Justin Timberlake was surprisingly good in this movie. Movie was raw and gritty, my only knock on this movie is that many of the characters were not developed enough to really care about the outcome.
