Alucarda is one of the more striking and shocking Mexican gothic fests from the golden age of cinematic sleaze. Complete with nuns, devil worship, blood baths, and sadistic religious fanaticism, this is one destined for late night viewing. Fans of Alejandro Jodorowsky will be able to really enjoy some of the shocking beauty in its ugliness.
Alucarda is extremely original in its delivery and was also quite an influential film as well. One scene that stands out will seem oddly familiar to those who have seen the film Firestarter, and even more so DePalma's Carrie. Both of which were made AFTER Alucarda. One gains a true appreciation for the craft of filmmaking seeing these familiar scenes presented here for the first time.

I can't honestly remember much about this, but I know I didn't like it. I seem to recall a lot of hysterical screaming and some interesting art direction. The women are not attractive enough to make the nudity titillating, but that doesn't necessarily mean that this is art rather than exploitation.

It doesn't matter wether the plot of Alucarda is any good, or if its characters are well developed; this is a film about women going insane in a convent that has lots of nudity, blood and the devil, and obvioiusly the people who enjoy this films, the nunsploitation subgenre, will enjoy it and those who don't will stay away from it. The movie gives its audience exactly what they want and nothing more, and it's also fun in a batshit crazy kind of way.

I can definently see why this Nunsploitation classic has recieved the cult following that it has. This movie is fucking brutal. After a fairly slow start two girls become possessed by demonic forces, and old school flagellation and exorcism are in need. Ridiculous amounts of boobies and bloodshed are the order of the day in front of a backdrop of utter satanic blaspheming. My favourite scenes are the possession (that one gypsy has nice boobs yo) and the final showdown, Don't want to ruin the ending for anyone who hasn't seen this but expect lots of priests and nuns on fire. Must see for Nunsploitation fans.

This film is insane.
It's also creepy, angry, confused, only half makes sense, and may actually be brilliant.

This film is insane.
It's also creepy, angry, confused, only half makes sense, and may actually be brilliant.
This little ditty about possesion and all the fun stuff that goes along with it is really unlike anything you've ever seen. One can not argue that the set design is amazing, as well as Moctezuma's shot and sequence composition being impeccable.
The story has it's weaknesses and it's laughable moment, but what it doesn't do is bore you. It get right into it, in spite of logic, and as long as you allow yourself to go along with it, gives you one hell of an experience.
If anything this film makes me want to watch the hell out of Juan L. Moctezuma's cannon and as well check out some other Mexican horror selections of the 70s.

Another awesome Mondo Macabro release. Young girls are tempted by Satan in a nunnery... just don't read the title backwards if you don't want to know what happens.
