This film's cheese factor is way off the chart and most of this film makes very little sense but for sheer comedy value this film has some quality moments such as " I named you Joe because it was the only american name i knew." and the truck that blows up for absolutely no reason.
It really is 'Rebel Without a Cause' dressed up in a ninja outfit. Ah, yes, the movie that began America's love affair with Michael Dudikoff... Well, not really, but nonethteless... American Ninja laid the groundwork for its four sequels: big, dumb action set-pieces, ninjas, exot...( read more)

I like Michael Dudikoff but strange some of his Movies I nearly felt asleep. I think I have seen only 4 of his Movie from the beginning till the End.
Yes, I know... but this is a true guilty pleasure from my youth. I'll always love it for such stupid reasons. It's dumb, schlocky, ridiculous, macho and ultimately a silly kick-ass 80's, direct to video pile of testosteroney. BUT.... I love it! Sorry, it's funny when it's not su...( read more)
who didnt love this movie during the whole ninja craze in the 80s.
wow did the bad ninja just shoot a laser !!!!!!
What do u do when Chuck Norris drops out of the ninja movie you're making? Easy u hire a better looking actor who has no previous martial arts experience. Ok i could go on and on about how cheesy this movie is but in the end I still love it. Who doesn't want to live in a world wh...( read more)

Michael Dudikoff walks around with a permanent botox face, and stumbles through his karate scenes. Pure cheese!
AWESOME! Michael Dudikoff wsa awesome in this and the sequel, not great storywise or whatever, but I enjoyed the action.
I thought it was totaly okay when I watched it.. for at least 5-10 years ago.. LOL! Just watched it again.. this flick isn't really worth watching.. The fights are really bad.. the FX's and the sound.. especially when then are hitting someone.. sounds like they are hitting a meat...( read more)
Sure it is dumb, cheesy and a average martial arts action film but it completely entertaining and a sure-fire guilty pleasure. It sadly reminds me that there just isn't enough ninjas in movies today. If you leave your brain at the door while watching this you will have a lot of fun.
It's hard to believe that Michael Dudikoff was the same blonde-haired doofus who was in the original Bachelor Party with Tom Hanks. Hard to take an actor seriously after that.
First of the series, with Dudikoff as an American serviceman who moonlights as a ninja. Of course, almost everyone's against him.
Classic! - if you grew up an "80s kid" and didn't want to be a "Ninja" after this movie...What am I talking about? - anyone of us growing up in the 80s saw this flick and immediately wanted to become a Ninja!!
Welcome to the 80's when ninja movies were at a all time high. To bad this was a bad film.
