without question one of my favorite musicals of all time. kelly is the greatest musical actor and despite the greatness of singin in the rain i think this is his best movie. laslie caron is one of the most beautiful women ive ever seen on screen and the music, acting, locations...( read more), and story are all perfect. the only thing holding this entire film back from perfection is an ending that misses the more romantic climax for the sake of being "neat", but overall this is a classic and must see for fans of film.

A musical for people who don't like musicals. My problem with musicals is how I hate for people to just burst out in song for no reason. What I like about this film is that every musical break relates to the plot of the film. It doesn't necessarily advance the story, but at least...( read more) it makes sense. Gene Kelly is tremendous as always, but Leslie Caron shines in her first movie role.

What more could i ask out of a movie, it's my favourite type of movies (a musical) set in my favourite city on the world (Paris). Although this is not the same spectacle we witnessed a year later when we caught the same guy singing and dancing in the rain, but this managed to be ...( read more)a colourful and decent show although i would have preferred to hear some more singing. The story is nice although it has the typical love story plot but it had some catchy details that makes it more interesting. The casting was pretty good although it wasn't as high up as it shoudl have been. Gene Kelly was more brilliant at dancing then acting but the most impressive one was Oscar Levant and his orchestra scene where he was amazing. The sets and costumes were amazing and the few songs were pretty good but the dance numbers were mind blowing. And Gene Kelly proove dhimslef not only as an actor but as a very very talented dancer. And the last Ballet scene was huge although i didn;t find it necessary.

I adore Gene Kelly. He is a master of dance, absolutely no question. This is one of the most wonderful musicals.

This is a best picture-winning musical. This is about an American living in Paris. He's an artist and some rich lady wants to help him out. She is also romantically interested in him. He is interested in some other girl who is going to marry some guy she doesn't love because he d...( read more)id some favors for her. He has no idea that she isn't interested.

I hate musicals so it's no surprise I hated this film. Some musicals are tolerable, but this was terrible. The musical numbers weren't particularly memorable and I already can't think of a single song from this movie. The big finale at the end drug on for like 20 minutes and seemed to accomplish nothing. This was a terrible way to end the film in my estimation.

Overall, this was awful. I don't see what it accomplishes or how it won best picture, but it did. It's not like there was a dearth of quality cinema in 1951. This film somehow won 6 Oscars even though vastly superior films like A Streetcar Named Desire, The African Queen, A Place in the Sun, and Strangers On A Train were in the running for Oscars that year. Not only was this film terribly boring, but the characters weren't the least bit interesting. Nobody in this film was nominated for an acting Oscar. A Streetcar Named Desire had actors nominated in all 4 acting categories winning in 3 of them (Marlon Brando lost to Humphrey Bogart). I can't believe this film won best picture. This is by far the least-deserving winner of the best picture Oscar that I have seen.
