Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, Scott Mosier

To know the origin of "Snoochie-Boochies," you must spend An Evening with Kevin Smith. The Jersey-bred auteur of low-budget comedy proves equally adept as an uncensored raconteu...( read more  read more... )r, regaling five college audiences--his most devoted demographic--in this two-disc compilation of lively Q&A. Sporting his trademark slacker garb, Smith occasionally bites the loyal, sometimes moronic hands that feed him (as a result, audience participation is drop-dead hilarious), but he's arguably the most publicly and personally honest filmmaker to survive the insanity of Hollywood. His best stories lift the veil of show-biz decorum, describing absurd meetings with studio executives over his ill-fated screenplay Superman Lives; razzing the artsy pretensions of director Tim Burton; or exposing Prince (who hired him to direct a never-completed documentary) as a self-absorbed Jesus freak. These attacks aren't baseless; Smith's too smartly good-natured to provoke without purpose, and with an onstage visit by Jason Mewes ("Jay" to Smith's "Silent Bob"), this ribald, sharply assembled Evening compares favorably to Richard Pryor with its outrageous blend of comedy and candor. --Jeff Shannon

If you enjoy Kevin Smith and his films, there's not much here not to like. Kevin is quick-witted and pretty damn funny. He's a great story teller who could've just as well have been a stand-up comic as film maker. It's long though. 4 Hours of Smith can be a bit much and it's not ...( read more)edited particularly well; but for this kind of film it hardly matters.

If you are a Kevin Smith fan then you MUST see this DVD. It is a series of lectures that he gives at various campuses, but it stands as two of the funniest DVDs I have ever rented. They parallel and sometimes even surpass some of the humor and heart in many of his movies. He disc...( read more)usses more than just Clerks, Chasing Amy, Mallrats, Dogma, etc...(very interesting portion though re: the church's reaction to "Dogma" and how Clerks got made), he talks about the world he lives in and how he sees it. Ever true to his Jersey roots and own sensibilities there are times this brilliant man will have you in tears of laughter. Wait until you hear about his encounter with Prince. OY! There is even a cameo with Jason Mewes for all you ?Can?t get enough of Jay and Silent Bob people out there.? Enjoy Kevin Smith fans, Enjoy...this one's for you.

This is just Kevin answering questions and telling tales in front of college audiences, and it's a lot of fun. We learn all the behind-the-scenes stories about how all the movies got made, how he and Mewes hooked up and how he was nearly maimed for life after first-time sex with ...( read more)his now-wife. It's over four hours long, but well worth the time.

As is clear from his films, Kevin Smith is sharp, witty, funny, and insightful, so if you're a fan of him at all, you should definitely check this out - it's a sort of "best of" of Q&A sessions Smith did at various universities. It's very entertaining, but you'd definitely have t...( read more)o be a fan of the dude to enjoy it - so if you're one of those people, check it out.

I could listen to Kevin Smith talk nonstop for a week straight. I love his humor and humlity when talking, I love his tangents and stories. Generally speaking, I love him.
