A tremendously underrated, well crafted courtroom drama in which Al Pacino delivers one of his best performances in my opinion..
Gripping all the way through, the perfection Pacino shows playing his role is almost unbelievable.. The final scene alone is a masterpiece, it's a must see for every fan of his.. and who isn't ?!
Excellent cast, perfect direction.. Just terrefic !!
One of the most classic lawyer movies made with Al Pacino and his famous finally. Pacino plays a lawyer who can not tell which side of the law is right or what side he belongs to; one client is in jail for a crime he did not commit, another he is strongling to find his inocence, and another that he knows is guilty yet has to defend him. On top of that, he has a judge that is suisidal. What is he to do? What sise will he take?
Has the worst music ever put in a film. Still a phenomenal movie, however. A first-rate dramedy script and great performances--especially from Pacino--make this an unforgettable classic.
Remember when movies didn't need big explosions? Pacino again does his whole yelling thing, but it's much more subtle. Possibly his best non-Dick Tracy performance.
This movie was purely great. Al Pacino my hero ! ^^ I liked the ironic and sarcastic ton of it.. he looked so desperate trying to have justice for all ! ^^
The flick has something of a TV movie feel about it at first and the comedy elements that are introduced just don't seem to fit with the material. It just felt too light.
But as the film moves on, it begins to make sense. The absurdity of the legal system and the way's that it can be corrupted, the humour is a really great way of getting that point accross.
Al is great in this, he conveys a real desperation as a guy who is trying to do the right thing but is hampered by pretty much everyone at every step. The rest of the supporting cast are pretty great too, especially George Bluth himself in a very early role. The guy is just a blast to watch.
Unfortunately, the flick makes some wrong choices towards the end which make it more of a good film rather than a great one. You can see the ending a mile away and when Al kicks off his big speech there are just no surprises as to what he is going to do. It's a bit of wasted opportunity.
it's pretty slow going and the pacino machine doesn't really get a chance to act until the last half. it has moments of comedy in it and can't be put down for it's methods of telling this story, but it just isn't one of the flicks you'd watch over and over. probably see it once and never get the urge to watch it again. of course once big al gets his chance he blows all the other actors/actresses outta the water as per usual but you gotta be patient with it
Al Pacino at his best and Scarface be DAMNED! This is a GREAT look at the justice system in America and how screwed up it can truly be. And how much we need people who actually believe in the principles of it.
Every part in this gripping court room drama is played with panache. Al Pacino is just wonderful and Jack Warden, as the judge, is marvelous. A must see.
What a tremendously underrated picture. Pacino delivers the type of performance one would expect from a legend, and the rest of the film succeeds on a level above the average 70's flick.
The story centrally evolves around the case which Pacino is attempting to defend. However, the raw emotional core of his character is so complex, that the actual case at work is nothing more than another roadblock to his happiness.
Pacino's explosive courtroom sequence nearly singlehandedly deserves him another Oscar. He performs with such conviction that one should almost remind him that this is just a movie.
The cast is flawless, and the direction is handled with perfection. A masterpiece on all scales that exceeds what the average courtroom drama offers. Terrific.
In my opinion one of the most underrated Pacino movies ever, besides The Panic in Needle Park. The emotion that Pacino shows in this movie is astounding and the end courtroom scene by itself is some of the best acting of his career.
There are not simply enough words to describe passion, the drama, and the feeling which is and justice for all! But you feel SOOOOOO drawn with film because the action is a prefect. Arthur Kirkland represents human dignity and the compassion, speaking the truth in an alienated gone system where the affluent can operate the so guilty system, whereas the poor and the under-privileged people who can be innocent, often take their place in overloaded prisons.
The movie is good, but Al Pacino is great. There's definitely a cheesy '70s vibe here, but it's more than redeemed by Pacino's electrifying performance and incredible presence.
Determined to do the honest thing, lawyer Al Pacino tried everything to refuse defending a judge accused of rape, one who he knows is guilty. With his reputation and career on the line he has a choice to make.
A clever drama that's enjoyable from start to finish.
This movie is simple in it's plot and storyline. It's got a little bit of comedy, drama, romance, etc. It basically depicts one lawyer's struggle between dealing with his corrupt legal system and battling with his own personal integrity. It's a decent movie for decent people; if you don't like this movie, you're "out of order."
