"And your name is JonaH" is an awesome movie that everyone should see. I highly reccommed it to those with disabilities in their family, those with hearing impairments in their families, or those interested in working with the disabled.

A couple whose son had been diagnosed as mentally retarded, and was institutionalized, are shocked to discover that the diagnosis was wrong, and that their son is deaf, not retarded.

Jonah (Jeffrey Bravin) isn't mentally retarded but he's deaf. His overprotective mother (Sally Struthers) finds out her son is deaf; not mentally retarded thru communication in sign languages. Jonah meets 2 people who are deaf. They teach Jonah in sign languages.

I thought Sally Struthers played a more serious role than she does as Gloria (All In the Family). Here parents of a deaf child are misled, as the medical community thinks the boy is mentally retarded.
