Hearty, funny, and typically Filipino at times, but nonetheless entertaining, and Ai-Ai de las Alas is outstanding in her performance. "Tanging Ina" delivers all it promises: a familiar, reasonably acceptable story with laugh-out-loud moments, and some breathtakingly emotional scenes. This film survives with just the necessities and manages to cross the level of "just entertaining" to "entertaining and more", which includes being an occasionally undemanding symphony of a rather heavy family-oriented subject matter. The other, is diving away from the expected story elements like romance and luck and bringing in the simple element of surprise in the plot to surely please the viewer. "Vogue?
