This movie shows the bond of friendship between Meena and Anita. It displays the life of Meena in a very detailed way between her living her Indian culture and acting in the English Culture
One of the funniest films I have ever seen, although on a serious note, highlights racism and prejudice in 70's midlands.
This is a fantastic film. Set in the 70's it's funny and has a top cast.
You have to see this film.
This Brit-Asian movie is basically a coming-of-age story with humourous moments. Not as good as East Is East & Bend It Like Beckham - but I liked this too.
A really good, fun English movie with the Goodness Gracious Me cast again - (Are there any other British-Indian actors?)
This film might not offer much in the way of 'belly laughs' but it certainly keeps me chuckling. I think the girl who plays Meena is very good for a child actor and, whilst the story is a bit predictable and doesn't really go anywhere this film is harmless fun.
It's a british comedy. Therefore it's
1 got hilarious comedy accents.
2 got hilarious 70s fashions.
3 got "affectionate" racial stereotypes.
4 got an utterly predictable script.
5 shite. Sorry, I mean "shoyt".
Well written and sometimes quite humerous. Nice to see a movie about the 70s from an Indian perspective. Although the accent are annoying the acting is of a fair standard.
LOL @ Meena's nan when the lads put a small knife in her face and she pulls out a dagger that the Sikh's carry around!!
ooooooooookkkkkkkkkaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy...scary movie 100000!!! A horror story in a sence that it was so bad!!!
watched it in the cinema wen it come out lol i fought it was well gud .. seen it on tv tho the ova week and it wernt as good as i remebered it
I pretty much liked this film, I could sort of relate to the main character for me growing up in NZ being Samoan, trying to stick to Samoan tradition but at the same time wanting to rebel from it too. Sometimes there was always a major clash.
I couldn't understand the accent very well which made it difficult but then I got used to it and it turned out to be pretty good. Lilke movies about different cultures.
Loved it! Meera Syal is a brilliant author and this film is a great view of growing up in Britain in the seventies.
