beautiful failure?? yes, it's beautiful. a failure? I should think not. It's really Vivien's film and she makes it great!
I really like Vivien Leigh movies but this one I won't be watching again. I liked that this version stuck with the book but I felt bored the whole time watching it. I would rather go and watch the Anna Karenina with Greta Garbo. The chemistry between Vivien and Kieron wasn't there at all; they merely looked like friends instead of lovers.
An excellent film about a woman in a marriage she feels isolated and unloved within and the tragedy of living with her beauty which causes torment and pain to her and others. Realistically portrayed, Vivien Leigh acts her scenes DELICIOUSLY well. I nearly balled! :)
This was regarded as a beautiful failure when it was released but today it is been regarded more and more as a classic and even more so people 40 years after her death are becoming aware of the hypnotic brilliance of Vivien Leigh who was years ahead of her time. Her performance in this and other previously not regarded films of hers are ensuring her place in movie history as a immortal film icon with the likes of Monroe Dean and Garbo
Considering the movie technology that time had i would have to say that Anna Karenina was a poorly made movie. The movie didn't catch any of the dark scandelous atmosphere the book brought and it was a big disapointment. The only good thing about the whole movie was Vivien Leigh's brilliant performance who shows that even in not that good movie she can still do her thing.
depressing, not one of viv's top movies but i still liked it. enjoyable, will see the greta garbo version too
I HAVE THIS BOOK! I just haven't read it yet .. hmmm. It's by Tolstoy. One of the most famous Russian writer's .. EVER! I so wanna see this.
So terribly sad, like 'The Roman Spring of Mrs Stone' you just know there is no hope for her...
I've read the book, aswell, it helps you understand the characters a lot more.
I wanted to know if Anna was just paranoid about Vronsky going away to marry that other princess or if she was correct...turns out shes one paranoid person. You really feel for her (especially about her relationship with her son).
The Garbo version is meant to be the best, however i adore this version, and i've never watched any other version, but i will soon.
BUT one thing, Vronsky is so stiff in this film, he's not as passionate as i'd exspect him to be, for Anna to like him that much. Other than that the film is wonderful...
I don't understand this movie... not a bit. I have just finiched the book with the mission of hopefully understand this movie better... BUT I am just confused.
Vivien does a great job considering her mental state and is just admirable.
