    Betty Hutton is amazing as the rather simple-minded but talented Annie Oakley. It's a delightful 1h47min to spend watching this Michigan native spin an Ohio accent -- if you are indeed a fan of the musical genre. if you are not, this film is bad news for you, even though it does ...( read more)give us the story of "the first American female superstar". It does not offer more than a whirl around or two on the plot and apart from it's protagonist there isn't much to discover here, for a modern viewer who has had their dose of high profile musical prodigies like "Chicago' (2002) or "Moulin Rouge" (2001) in the past decade. For those with a taste for the classic though... you'll be rewarded accordingly.

    Betty Hutton is just a little too peppy in the title role, she becomes overbearing at times, too exaggerated. The entire film is overblown and extreme. There are a few good songs, the production sure had a lot of money poured into it, but it's just too much. The best scenes of th...( read more)e film are on the special features, with the cut footage of Judy Garland in the role before she was fired.

    pretty decent movie overall. doesn't quite carry the same charm as the play, but Betty Hutton plays a fantastic Annie and the rest of the cast is just as entertaining. Irving Berlin's songs will always be classic, and the costumes are the definite technical standout. a lot of ...( read more)the effects and cinematography have not aged well at all, but as far as MGM musicals go, this one certainly belongs on the top tier.

    this is an amazing musical, and im not even really a fan of musicals...this gave a great respect to women to accomplish anything they set their heart/mind on.
