Antigoni (Antigone) (Rites for the Dead)
Greek director Yiorgos Tzavellas helmed this adaptation from the theatrical stage. When Oedipus's sons kill one another in a bitter fight for the throne, Creon (Manos Katrakis) assumes the role of King of Thebes. But when the deceased men's sister, Antigone (Irene Papas), goes against the wishes of the new king and properly buries her dead brothers, the king orders Antigone to be buried alive in a tomb. Will she be able to escape alive?

Critic Reviews from Rotten Tomatoes

"The straight-forward play, using no gimmicks, allows the power of Sophocles' words and lyrical parables to come through loud and clear."
