You should see Apocalypse Now for a spectacular depiction of the insanity of war and mankind in general. An effective movie contains scenes that you will recall long after watching it. While there may be a question about the accuracy of some of the scenes in Apocalypse Now there is no question about their impact. Who could forget the helicopters blasting out Wagner's 'Ride of the Valkyries' as they approach a Vietnamese village? And as a crazy AIR-CAV commander. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. The film was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Robert Duvall), Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Art Direction/Set Decoration, and Best Film Editing, but the film won only two well-deserved awards: Best Cinematography (Vittorio Storaro) and Best Sound. However, it was the first film to be awarded the Palme D'Or (the top prize) at the Cannes Film Festival.
Oh the Horror! Dark, creepy and tragic representation of Vietnam War. From Conrad's novel Heart of Darkness. Coppola's best war film, his Vietnam epic. Brando as Kurtz was incredible, all the performances were sensational. "I love the smell of napalm in the morning."
My second favourite FFC movie, AN captures the grips of insanity and rational in men. It shows us the horrors of war. It shows just how far a man can be pushed. Featuring one of the best actors of our time, Marlon Brando
There only oe word to say about this movie: psycho.
And to finish I'l tell you a little thing during this movie: every actor when the movie finished needed a cure for their nerves because it was too hard...
Apocalypse When? Sheen does good work, it's got Han Solo briefly, Brando was probably overpayed, MINISTRY sampled the flick, Dennis Hopper is a crazy man, White Stripes Rock.
Brando.....a classic! One of the best Vietnam war movies. It really shows the horrors and insanity of war. And who can forget the classic line of, "....the smell of napalm in the morning..." x
The best film I have ever seen. Brings in Homer's 'Oddessy' Conrad's 'Heart of Darkness' and at the same time manages an excellent moral crtique of the Vietnam war. Mind boggiling.
This. Awesome. It's the kind of movie that plays with your mind and leaves you wondering about your own sense of sanity. It's thought-provoking. Marlon Brando, as the insane but charismatic and likeable Col. Kurtz, brings an aura of majesty into his character. Excellent.
This is one fucked up movie, I've seen this through and I must say, job well done! not to sure how many versions have been made though :P but god some of those parts creep me out, Marlon Brando in an excelent performance and also from Martin Sheen.
Mezmerizing, haunting, absolutely astounding. It's easy to see why many called this film a mess, but I find nothing wrong with the flawless surreality to this masterpiece. It captures the madness of any war situation, let alone the Vietnam War. Brando is astounding.
my friend introduced this film to me, and to be honest, i was a little skeptical. the last war movie i saw and enjoed at the time were the rambo films, and that was way back in 99 or something. now here was my friend holding this dvd aas if it were a lifeline, and demanded i saw this film. such as, it most certainly did not disappoint.
A masterpiece. Probably the greatest war movie ever made. After over 2 hours of anticipation built up over the meeting of Brando's crazed Kurtz, he does not dissapoint.
Possibly the best war movie of all time, and it's creation was overwhelmed by finacial pitfalls and precocious actors. Marlon Brando deliveres his finest imromptu adlibbing ever and Martin Sheen breaks down authentically on camera. If you haven't seen it already you probably don't know cinematic history.
One of the best movies of all time, well the redux version was a little disjointed. Making the movie kind of mirrored the War - all the actors screwed up going crazy taking Acid in the jungle....
its a nice movie, but I only really liked the first half because with war films I much prefer them too stay accurate and about the war. Still its good and has an awesome huey bit :D
I'll never listen to the Ride of the Valkyries the same way again. Or read The Hollow Men. Or watch A Steetcar Named Desire. Is that... even the same Brando?
A haunting classic. More of a character study than a war movie (although there is a lot of action). Martin Sheen, Marlon Brando and Dennis Hopper are brilliant in this dark and haunting film.
