''All right you primitive screwheads, listen up! See this? This...is my boomstick!"
With "The Evil Dead" and "Evil Dead 2" already bumped up to cult following status, it was a given that "Army of Darkness" would be along for the ride.

After two pretty spooky films, the third Evil Dead movie decided not to take itself seriously anymore at all. What follows is an 80 minute ghost train ride with cheesy lines, mediocre special effects and hilariously funny fights. Bruce Campbell's Ash is the coolest mofo imaginabl...( read more)e, throwing out snotty lines by the minute. If you don't take this too seriously, you're in for a fun ride. Just don't expect logic , depth or consistency. So bad that it's good, but at least intentionally so. Unbelievable that director Raimi went on to make Spider-Man blockbusters.

With out a doubt Bruce Campbell's best film. It's probably Sam Raimi's best too! (But only just in front of Crimewave). It's very quotable, very funny and loads of fun. Definitely in my top 10 favourite films of all time!

At the end of Evil Dead 2 Ash is sucked back in time through a time warp. He returns to medieval times where he is mistaken for the prophesied saviour. He is sent to recover the lost Necronomicon to save the people but also return him to his own time. Typically he makes a mistake...( read more) when reading the book and he reserectes the army of the undead onto the land. Ash must fight to defeat yet more undead fiends!

The third in the series sees the gore drop off and the comedy step up even more. The previous two were both darkly funny but this is just plain hilarious. The sheer raft of one liners and silly/horror set ups keeps you laughing all the way. The horror is not scary as before ? mainly because the gore is gone, however I prefer this as the stop motion stuff gives it an old fashioned feel that adds to the value of it ? it's hard to explain but I really enjoy this because it feels like an old Harryhausen film.

Campbell is brilliant ? I bet he can't believe hi s luck, the rest of his career he's struggled but Rami seem to love him. And rightly so, he is like Jim Carrey but has so much more talent and is a classic B-movie leading man type. The rest of the cast are so-so but really this is an one man show and he does it really well.

Overall this is a great little film. Fans of the series will love it, fans of comedy should love it and fans of B-movie cheese should enjoy it. And the less gore means fun for all the family (nearly).

Following the events of EVIL DEAD II, Ash finds himself flung backwards in time into a medieval land, where his failure to retrieve the Book of the Dead enables evil forces to muster a massive army of stop-motion animated skeletons. Raimi tried to take the elements he thought wo...( read more)rked best from EVIL DEAD III---the ghoulish slapstick and Bruce Campbell's campy action-hero parody---and hammer them relentlessly, resulting in a movie that feels a bit forced but is still a wacky good time.

Hilarious. I really laughed hard on this one. I did not except the movie to be this funny, I thought it will be like Evil Dead 2( I have not seen the orginal) gory with plenty of action and a few laughs but this one was a pure comedy. The effects were really cheap but I guess tha...( read more)t was the point; introducing some clumsy creatures for us to laugh at. Campbell was funny as hell and had some great lines. I am not a B movie person but Army of Darkness is one pleasent surprise.

4 of 5 stars for the ah ah sci-fi? action? fantasy movie Army of Darkness. I first looked at the cover art and read the liner notes and thought "here we go with a real-B movie, sigh". I started watching and it was funny and interesting. Watching the Blu-Ray I was really impressed...( read more) with the image quality--super sharp and clear, it looked almost like video rather than film. So early-on, I'm thinking this is a spoof movie, but no, it was a straight fantasy/comedy movie. Then it hit me! This is a tribute to the Ray Harryhousen movie (Sinbad). Then I noticed this movie has everything from stop-action creatures, alot of rubber suits and alot of real models of creatures. Yeah, some CG, but not much. It really has the look and feel of the old Sinbad movies.

The plot is of a "S-mart" sales guy getting transported to the 1300's to fight against Deadites and recover an artifact book. Bruce Campbell did an outstanding job in the lead role. This movie was a pleasure to watch. Stupid comedy in places, old-style effects, silly quest and it is all fun fun fun! This is on my watch-it-again list.
