Plot: Around the Bend concerns four generations of Lair men. There's eccentric patriarch Henry (Michael Caine), prodigal son Turner (Christopher Walken), bitter grandson Jason (Josh Lucas), and great...( read more read more... )-grandson Zach (Jonah Bobo). Shortly after Turner arrives in L.A. for a surprise visit, the ailing Henry dies. The remaining three take off on the road trip he had insisted on before his untimely passing. Jason is none too pleased--after all, his father ran out on him 30 years ago--but it was his Henry's dying wish. So there they are on the way to New Mexico, where long-buried secrets will finally be revealed. Heartwarming, if predictable, Around the Bend represents the softer side of its three leads and Walken is particularly effective in an uncharacteristic role (i.e., miles away from The Deer Hunter). His Turner is a bit odd, to be sure, but mostly he's just a regular guy who's made a few--rather substantial--mistakes. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

A good little film about sorting out past hurts. Christopher Walken was excellent but it would have been better if there was more character development.

Touching and surprising, it's a film about multi-generational male bonding in a family on an unusual road trip.

An passable little family dramedy with a good cast but it lacks emotional depth and spends too little time on its characters. Michael Caine, the best part of the film, doesn't get nearly as much screen time as he should have.

I loved this movie. Christopher Walken excellent as always. I'll never forget the scene of him rockin it OUT by the campfire. He makes me smile. Loved the soundtrack. MY generation's tunes, so I was rockin' out too while listening, and dug out my old favorite 'Will-o-the-wisp' by Leon Russell when this was over to listen again. 4 Generations of menfolk finding their way to (and away) from each other. All great parts & good story - Highly recommend to all.

Kind of a sweet film, somewhat like Little Miss Sunshine, but not as good.

But check it out if you like Christopher Walken or Josh Lucas, which I do.

This movie is perfection. The way all the characters find ways to forgive themselves and move on. Family love at its best.

What a great story, with fantastic cast. If there's such a thing as a 'guy chick flick', this could be it.

Oh yes Josh Lucas, very sexy man...lol, and I want to see the movie too. Christopher Walken is also a great actor.

This film might not have ever gone past the borders of brilliance, but it certainly hinges on the borders of moving and heartbreaking. Capped off with an inspirational performance by Christopher Walken.

Good movie with decent character development. May be a bit subtle for some but Caine, Lucas & Walken were shining. Kid was well cast too.

I had been under the impression that this film was a comedy; it isn't.. its a 2 hour long funeral.. one that I cried through... strange.. first and only time I'd cried at a film or at a funeral (real or not). Was this because I was prepared for a comedy?
