Have never seen this version and thought the one with Jackie Chan was the first one done. I did like that version and since I go for the classic ones I am sure I would like it.
at some points better then the remake, like the adventure you see init, but i like the remake more because i think the comedy and action are better there. this movie has its flops but in general i pretty much liked this movie.
A real clunker. Seemingly more interested in being a travelogue than an adventure film, the movie is severely lacking in excitement, suspense, and enduring humor, and most of the characters grate on the nerves. In every new locale, the movie drags its feet in order to give us a fifteen-minute look at a sun-drenched landscape or an exotic circus routine, and this drudgery repeats itself for three hours that feel more like three days (which is about how long it took me to get through this plodding fiasco). The TV miniseries starring Pierce Brosnan is far superior.
this rating made by a 5 year old, after she met an actor in the film on a plane stopping in Iceland for a storm we needed to miss. I told my parents I wanted to see the film so I could see if he was a good actor. I enjoyed the fantasy of the film, the sites and custumes kept my eyes pleased. The adventure was
thrilling and heart racing for a kid.
Quite terrific entertaining of Jules Verne's classic tale that has remains a treat for those who bask in the glow of gorgeous cinematography, lavish production values, and a whimsical script that retains the novel's essential elements. This film also features cameos by more than 40 cinema legends. Cantinflas made a wonderful performance as Phileas Fogg's servant, Passepartout, he's quite so funny like Charlie Chaplin.
The 1956 world tripping adventure in which an Englishman of well means in Victorian times travlels the world in just about 2 months using whatever means he can find.
Charming epic comedy with gratifying special appearances by some cinema legends. David Niven plays the quintessential english gentleman, but Cantinflas is the one who steals the show, as he always did in his native mexico. great entertainment.
i dont care what people say about this being a boring movie...to be sure it is rather slowpaced at times, and un-pc to the point of not really being funny in a few parts, but i still love it! it's so funny...there's so many good lines!
I like old movies. And I'm usually able to watch them in the context of when they were made, i.e. not having an MTV mentality when watching a silent film from 1920. But this movie was just boooring. It basically played as a National Geographic travelogue with some hammy acting thrown in. I'm at a loss how this movie was considered the best picture of the year. There were some beautiful shots of all the different countries, but pretty pictures does not a good film make. Just as one example, the bullfight scene went on forever. I suppose for bullfighting fans it was great, but there's only so many times I can watch a bull run through a blanket without it getting boring. It did pick up a little bit when Fogg and company made it to the States, and Buster Keaton was great in his small role, but the portrayal of Native Americans was cringe-inducing for me, the "me smoke-um peace pipe" and the mindless savage portrayals were sad to watch. To sum up, if the most exciting thing the hero of the movies does is sit on his deck chair and sip tea, you know you're in for a hard slog.
I'm a dedicated fan of the originals. This is more like it and when you see the updated version you kinda wonder why they bothered. I suppose it's okay for reasons of comparison but if you've only got the time to watch one then see this one.
I've seen this movie when I was 10 and I definitely feel I need to see it again from a new perspective. I've been watching some Cantinflas spanish films lately and his brilliant mind just blows me away.
One of the people I'd have loved to meet.
Although somewhat dimmed by age, this classic is still worth watching. True enough to Verne's book, this delightful comedy stars a mutltitude of great actors, exotic locales and good, old-fashioned adventure.
definitely entertaining, although i presume i would have enjoyed it much more when it first came out... it is tremendously overlong, and there are quite a few scenes that go on forever. it's still worth a watch though- but probably only one.
:-)With old-times famous actors in minor roles! Buster Keaton SPEAKS! Marlene Dietrich beautiful as ever. Fernandel, Charle Boyer, Peter Lorre, etc, etc. See the full cast & crew at IMDB.com! FIVE stars! Be still a child at heart when you watch the film!
i loved the book, and i wasn't disappointed in the movie. the scenery was beautiful, and the atmosphere that surrounded the characters... who just HAD to go around the world in 80 days, could be felt and i couldn't help but cheer them on.
Well this is a first for me i must say. I love traveling movies because I plan to travel alot but this one had a bunch of different countries to tour and I thought that they portrayed the different places quite well. I absalutely loved it and the actors performance was wonderfull. In this version there were some dull parts but i mean overall the whole movie worked out and turned out to be really great.
This was my favorite when I was young. I still like to see it when it is on TV and watch for the many cameos. There is a black and white prologue, and there are the world's finest closing credits, to boot.
