Funny kinda has this Mallrats / Superbad feel to it. It is a quirky comedy that any movie goer should watch atleast once.

As an art school graduate, I recognize the accuracy of Zwigoff's portrayal of that environment. It's too bad the comedy is so flat and uninspired, because this could have been a great satire.

Absolutely spot on. This film choreographs an East Coast art school to neo-perfection. Proving as well that these are strange times: students adopting obscure methods simply to achieve. Well observed.

Art School Confidential seems to take the art class scenes from another Terry Zwifoff/Daniel Clowes project Ghost World and tries to elaborate on it. The first half was great as it laughs at all the cliches an art school is undoubtedly filled to the brim with. About half to 2/3rds of the way in Art School Confidential tries to develop a tangible plot and that's where the whole thing stalls out. The last 20 minutes is like a really long funeral but it's got a great cast and for a while I laughed a lot. Proceed with caution...

This film starts off looking very promising. What better setting could there be for a college comedy than an art school campus filled with zany and eccentric students? The premise works very well throughout the first half of the film. Each of the many character's giant egos and bizarre personalities collide with each other with humorous and entertaining results. The film takes a wrong turn however when it begins to take itself way too seriously. A bogus love story and a ridiculous serial killer plot become the main focus, and the comedy goes straight out the window. This movie needed to decide on one identity, comedy or drama. It's very difficult to have your cake and eat it too when attempting to balance between these two genres. Unsurprisingly, this film does not succeed at this. On top of that, the ending to this movie is ludicrous and insulting to anyone's intelligence.

A pretty decent movie. A small, yet not very convincing taste of an art school student, and the typical art school cliches.. Entertaining to say the least, but overall a very mediocre film.

I just LOVE this movie to death! My art professor mentioned this during one of our classes, and I went out and rented one. Brilliant, the wy they presented the different types of art students.

Much darker than I thought it would be. Terry Zwigoff has a gift for making offbeat comedy dramas about pathetic people. Cool to see Steve Buscemi and Joel David Moore in the same flick, too.

Well, firstly: Anjelica Huston has roughly two lines. How can they call her a star? The movie was very odd. I liked it in a way. Perhaps some of it went over my head. Perhaps I'm not understanding some weird symbolism. It was alright.

A bit harsh with its stereotypes on art students, particularly Strathmore College's female population. However, the characters were still believable and one could relate to some of their view points on the world and on art.

Original ending, nice subtle humour, and the script is well put despite language and sexual references.

A story with a strange twist. I am not sure if I understood. I think it's one of those movies you either love or hate. I haven't decided yet which I do. Never seen something similar before.

Art School Confidential is a 2006 comedy-drama film directed by Terry Zwigoff, loosely based on the comic of the same name by Daniel Clowes.

It's a good movie and done well. Starts off as a comedy, then goes to be a murder mystery, to end up as a drama. I wish it had remained a comedy, because it had some odd-ball, cerebral comedy that I like and wish it had continued through. It's not a bad movie and I'd recommend it.

dumb and frankly insulting to art students, even if parts of the art world commentary are kinda true. Not funny as previews would have you believe

disjointed and out of step for a zwigoff film; buscemi being the only bright spot in this film.

An interesting film, but the script was all over the place. The last act was very good, however, and almost rescues the film from its earlier mistakes. The direction is great, and I look forward to more from Zwigoff, and also from Clowes, who gives us a great story (and some really funny characters). If only the screenplay had a little more polish. Mildly recommended.

Refreshingly cynical look at the art world and people who take themselves too seriously. Intelligently written. If you've ever looked at Warhol's Campbell's Soup I and thought, "Huh?", add another star.

A painfully funny and accurate summary of what art school is like. The murder subplot isn't totally necessary, but it adds some really darkly humorous aspects to the film...like the ending where the hero pretends to be the serial killer to get the girl. It's fucked up, it's one of the blackest of black comedies, and the hero's goals are completely honorable in my mind -- he wants to become famous, make lots of money, and end his days while making love to beautiful women. Wouldn't we all love to end our lives in some semblance of that?

I was positively surprised by this film. For me, it's amazing how a movie with such a weak and pretty silly plot succeeded in being interesting, humorous and amusing. First of all, it presents ideas that are good to think about and to laugh at (at least in this film); such us how important artists gain popularity with their death or by beeing involved in "odd" situations; or how relative art is, and what can be considered good or bad.
When it wants to be funny, it is very funny. There are great secondary characters and the ending is just perfect. It's not a memorable end, it's just highly suitable for the movie. Just that. Not a masterpiece, not the best movie of its decade, not even of its year; just a recommendable film that I really liked!

Expected a lot more. Started off decently interesting but then quickly became disenchanting, with little resolution.

This is a beautiful, artistic comedy.... I totally loved this film. Max Minghella's performance is just awesome. A comedy with pace & pause. Ridicules what we deem as fine art showing the bull*** that is a modern artist.

Pretty sweet. I feel lucky that none of the artists I know are ass holes like a majority of them in this flick lol
