Brutally hilarious. Jack is great in delivering awesome lines mocking anyone daring enough to piss him off. His finest performance and a fine film in it's own regard.
As Good As It Gets, is such a funny film starring a great cast: Jack Nicholson, Helen Hunt, and Greg Kinnear.
The paranoid single man (Nicholson) meets a waitress (Hunt) whom gets his attention. The two together discover each other in this smart and very funny film very worth watching.
A Great Movie. As good as it Gets! Jack Nicholson Is realy something for himself, Always playing a Crazy Person, and in this movie he shows it very clearly, which make this an alltime great and funny movie.
Three outstanding performances for three excessively-normal characters. Nicholson, Hunt and Kinnear were so amazing, I just fell in love with each of their characters - the mad neighbor, the browbeating waitress, and the gay artist. I ADORE THE FILM FOR THAT.
Jack is an off the wall looney. Loved the movie. It had a lot of meaning in it on how hard it is to connect with others and how others connect with you when things aren't all right. Both Jack and Helen were superb in their role
Honestly, I didn't felt the same way like the Academy Awards judges felt... I just learn that this one is a strange movie, yet it is from the story or from the title... And how Jack Nicholson or Helen Hunt can win an Oscar for their performance in this movie, well actually I'm not impressed... Jack Nicholson just really a jerk, he always played the bad boy type, but not in a young age... I think he didn't act in this movie, because as I know he mostly played in a movie where he become a bad guy so his Oscar winning in this movie isn't a surprise for me... Maybe the Oscar just didn't know about his acting at all... For Helen Hunt, I don't know how she can won an Oscar for this movie... I know that she's charming and lovely in this movie, and she always do, but her Oscar winning?? I think it just a big surprise with her act in this movie... The one that should be given the thumbs up is Greg Kinnear... He played great I think in this movie... Too bad Cuba Gooding Jr. didn't shine in this movie... His acting is still the same type acting from his Oscar winning performance in Jerry Maguire, so the Oscar did the right job for not giving him at least a nominee for this movie... Overall, it's a strange and unusual movie... But somehow, I just getting curious and more curious about this movie after you watching it.... And it really a nice one...
frankly speaking
it was no different to me than AMERICAN BEAUTY both films have irrational characters, though stories seemed quite practical, but my purpose was 2 see films for entertainment, i m no critic ..
so 2 things i concluded
1.ACADEMY AWARDS ARE GIVEN TO ABNORMAL SUBJECTS
2.I HATE HELEN HUNT
This was a lovely film that showed how difficult it can be for those with anxiety and/or depressive disorders to connect with others, and how difficult it can be for the others to return the connection.
"I think of a man, and then I take away all reason and accountability."
A bitter, insensitive old man crying over an ugly dog; this is a very endearing film that blends comedy and drama, creating a wonderful contrast.
"You make me want to be a better man."
Easily watchable; all the characters are well grounded, especially the dog. The scoring also works very well in a subtle way. The editing style also flows smoothly, giving the film a breezy pace.
"The best thing you have going for you is your willingness to humiliate yourself."
typical Jack Nicholson character. Some of the funniest quotes I know from movies I got from here... like: Zoe: How do you write women so well? Melvin: I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability. ;o)
Good flick. I was kind of bothered, however, by the lack of sympathy and understanding Nicholson's character received from all the other characters. He has obsessive-compulsive disorder, and naturally this inhibits his ability to pursue a healthy, constructive social life. Yes, he could be a real prick at times, and no, his OCD should not be a catch-all excuse for inexcusable, offensive behavior, but nor can he be expected to function like a "normal" person. Healthy social interaction is extremely difficult for him, and that needs to be understood and accepted by anyone who would wish to be his friend.
In 1997, this was as good as Hollywood could get, at least for romantic comedies with OCD actors in them. Jack Nicholson plays a totally mean obsessive nutcase who goes on a road trip with his apartment buddies because he drives better than they do, but things get a little hairy along the way. Has the most embarrassing performance by a man acting gay since Tootsie, but it's not Jack. No, Jack's character is so annooying that you want something bad to happen to him by the end, and it doesn't, which is why this only gets 3 stars.
Love it! Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt are both fantastic actors, and the combination is hilarious! (And Jack and the dog.. 'Always look on the bright side of life')
great movie! all the acting was a joy to watch. this is nothing negative toward the actors or the movie but if jack nicholson and helen hunt won best actor/actress im wondering what were the other roles that were nominated that year. they were strong roles to play but it wasnt exactly the hardest looking acting to do. it seemed really down to earth reality acting, which many movies arent today. helen hunt seems to have that youthful face taht will always stay young like demi moore and robin wright penn.
Jack Nicholson serves-up the role of the decade. His character's phobient, self-absorbed persona was captured so preciousOther than the acting, the story itself in one not to resist.
I've never really been into romance flicks all that much. The few that I do enjoy usually tend to have a sort of a sharp or jagged edge to 'em. And this one definitely does thru Jack's portrayal of a writer with "redrum" on his mind. At least, he does with the little dog during the opening sequence. Nicholson eases thru the role of a crusty curmudgeon with psychologically-based anti-social issues ( Is it just me or does it seem that the majority of Jack's most memorable roles always have something seriously askew upstairs? Or am I just being crazy?), & he does so with the insane-like smoothness of an actor who can do this blindfolded. And the fact that, at the same time, he still manages to allow himself to deliver lines that make the ladies go "awwww...", therefore, substantially increasing the chances of me "gettin' some" with my date on the night I saw this film, & it becomes easy to see why this is a romantic comedy that provides an end-result that can be pleasing to both males & females alike.
James L. Brooks directs one of the finest ans funniest contemporary romantic comedies with a unique style of plot development and storytelling. Personally, this is not my favorite James L. Brooks film, but for too many it is. Definitely a must-see for life!
really funny and charming comedy, in places its quite emotional but jack nicholson is so good as the ocd lead character you are captivated even when the plot goes a little ski-whiff. Definitly worth watching.
