Magical, surreal and hollywoodish film, yet presented with beautiful music and touching ending. I got nervous for Evan so much, even though i was 99% sure it's happy ending.
Story itself was good but ended before resolution of the plot. I hate it when that happens! You draw your own conclusions, sure, but it's never as satisfying as having resolution served up to you.
This movie feels like they just couldn't bring themselves to finish it. But it did end on a potentially happy note so I gave it a potentially happy score. When they finish, I'll finish!
I was surprised to find out this one is mostly based on Oliver Twist, but with a big child musical prodigy aspect. It's an amazing film in its own right though. A major tearjerker everyone should see.
An Uplifting, charming story with an repeating message that music can be learned by anyone if they can only just 'listen' to it.
While a heartfelt story, it's the little things that make it more problematic. Just the idea that the kid can play any instrument because he believes the in the music is a little farfetched , but it may just be me and Yes i know he's a prodigy...but still.
Aside from the above, everything else is extremely well-crafted, from the Oliver-Twist aspect to the fantastic performances of Keri Russell and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers.
I think August Rush wants to be uplifting and possibly inspirational, but it is so illogical and over the top preposterous it becomes unbearably stupid and so phony it's insulting! The acting on the whole is awful. Freddie Highmore was terrible and I found myself hating this kid! All the characters seemed one dimensional and empty. Some of the dialogue is so ridiculous it's nauseating. What's so unfortunate is the lack of movies that are inspirational and good natured that I would love to recommend this, but it's not worth a watch in my opinion.
this movie was very touching and warms your heart with its story about love, hope and how music connects people. freddie is really talented and you can see the never wavy hope of family, keri and jonathan gives good performences of lovers seperated and joined together by their love of music. Robin as always is good at playing complexed characters whom you don't know whether they're genuine or not. overall I liked it very much!!!!
A feel good movie that is in no way on any level with any of the other musicals this year but for anyone looking for a marginal feel goody, this one is for you.
i watched it yesterday and it is the best movie i have ever seen, i kid you not. not only is it starring one of the bestest kid actors i've seen in a long time (Freddie Highmore) but it also star Keri Russel who is awesome and a bunch of other really talented people. anyone who loves music would love this movie it is seriously spectacular!!! * * * * * stars! w00t
Nice Movie really, but seems to me that I've seen this kind of august rush character somewhere else!??...mmmm....let me think,...Oh now i remember, its Jean-Baptiste Grenouille's little brother!Don't tell me you don't know this guy. It's the smell freak in "Perfume:Story of a murder" movie!!!But in this case he this August Rush of us is a sound freak! Its becoming a cliche, don't you think? And about the ending!Seems like all that smooth rhythm is gone at the end like they want to wrap up the final scene so they can go home! Keri Russell & Jonathan Rhys-Meyers acting suddenly drops from the middle of the movie so it reaches its lowest degree when we get to the end of the movie! Looks like my dear Kirsten Sheridan was directing the movie from the end to the beginning!
Talk about disappointed... What could have been a great movie really was pretty awful. This could have been great, but I just didn't believe any of it, the ending was not as climactic as it could have been and it was altogether disjointed. Also, I hate it when Robin Williamsd plays a bad guy. It makes me uneasy.
A little cheesiness and unbeliability is made bearable by solid performances from all cast-members. Its actually the child actors, especially the musical kids, that outshine their adult counterparts. To call this a mushy movie is an understatement, really its unashamedly full of hope and wonder.
AMAZING MOVIE!! Cried like a bagillion times but it was SOOOOO good. The music was fantastic, the acting was great, and the plot was an emotional journey...in a good way! <3333
Emotional and with a solid cast. Well, you can't ask much more of a film. Freddie Highmore is proving himself to be one of the most gifted actors of his generation.
Very amazing and touching movie. When I saw this, I was surprised at how much music really IS incorporated into our everyday world. Any music lover out there should DEFINETLY see this one.
Fantastic movie! The character Robin Williams played ("Wizard" or something?) really made me mad, though! He just kept preventing Evan from doing what he wanted to do! Also, I could have gone with a longer ending, but I suppose we all know what happened. But besides that, this movie really shows how music brings people together- it shows us just how powerful music is. The story itself may not be true, but I find this movie has a true point. I think I loved this movie so much because I feel the same way about music as Evan does.
The music just captures and surrounds you... The plot is all magical but it could have been a lil more realistic. The run up to the climax is amazing..So in the end its a really good feel-good movie tht keeps you on the edge of your seat but the climax is awfully too perfect. leaves you saying "it can happen only in hollywood"
Fantastic movie with some large flaws. Great ideas, great directing, some good acting, some not so good acting. It plays out fairly predictably and it's a little far-fetched (forgivably because it's a modern fairy-tale). Sometimes it may be a little cheesy. But low and behold the ending really struck me hard emotionally so it was all worth it!
