I don't typically like sci-fi, but I really enjoyed this! I saw it in IMAX 3D, and it was so much fun to watch. I didn't even notice how long it was. I didn't think Sam Worthington did the best acting job, but other than that it was good!

It's an epic, sci-fi action masterpiece. An extraordinary, fascinating, deeply moving and utterly spectacular adventure. A visually incredible and compelling film. It sets new standards for the genre and creates an amazing new world. Director, James Cameron is back and dosent fai...( read more)l to satisfy with his new vision that truly is a classic. A riveting, explosive and relentless action-packed thrill-machine. Some of the best special effects, digital creatures and action sequences that are like nothing you have seen before, it will astonish you in every way imaginable. It stands with awesome effects action films like Star Wars and The Lord Of The Rings. It's truly brilliant film making. It's heart-pounding, mind-blowing and exhilarating all the way to its outstanding finish. One of the best films of the decade, also one of the greatest action movie experiences ever made. There has never been anything quiet like Avatar, so it truly grabs you and dazzles you. Loaded with non-stop explosive action and amazing special effects. It definitely stands with Cameron's classic films like Aliens, Terminator 2 and True Lies. An magnificent all-star cast. Sam Worthington is outstanding, doing an amazing job in the lead role, just like he did proving himself in Terminator Salvation. Showing he's a compelling leading man and stellar action star. Stephen Lang gives an awsome and predatory performance.

Worthington portrays a nice character arch as his human paraplegic body loses the definition of a fit marine and his Na'vi body becomes a warrior. Saldana is sweet and protectively vicious when need be. Weaver is tough as a diplomatic scientist standing up to Ribisi the corpora...( read more)te man and Lang the military man, but is soft and gentle in her Avatar body. Her Avatar looks a bit more plastic than most of the others for some reason. My pick for the tough as nails female character goes to Michelle Rodriquez though. Lang is scary and grizzled. I can see the connections to movies like Dances with Wolves. I like that type of story where an outsider becomes immersed in another culture. I really appreciated the Native American, one with nature, interconnected web of existence, style of spirituality that the Na'vi have.

The movie is visually a spectacle!! The spectacular luminous, glow in the dark vegetation, and tree top or cliff edge world of Pandora is thrilling. It is the type of big epic movie for which 3D technology was invented. I like that this is not only a science fiction movie or a fantasy movie. I love the mixture of mythical fantasy elements and the high tech robotic suits and digital virtual touch screens.

A must see. And to truly appreciate the visual and technological beauty of this film...you really should see in 3D.

Unfortunately to spite the technological & visual majesty and an intriguing mythology, the film suffers from some painfully predictale plot lines and terribly t...( read more)rite caricatures. Pretty much the same problems that plagues most of Cameron's films.

I really wish the studios would start to insist that he spend a fraction of the time on his scripts as he does on his effects. His sole concern always seems to be the visual aspects of his films. But I guees money talks and as long as people will pay for the eye candy, everything else will remain unimportant in his mind.

Having said that, the visual aspects are truly AMAZING. You should really check this one out. Just don't expect anything too exciting in the dialog or character department.

I can get something this stupid and pretty for a lot less than 13 bucks.

Even through all the hype, I didnt think I would like this as much as I did. Everyone got my hopes up, but they still were not high enough. The only movie to crack my top 15 since 2000 is Pirates of the Caribbean, and I didnt think it would happen again for a long time. But Avata...( read more)r is currently settled at #12.

It didnt take long for me to be completely amazed by this movie. First, with how realistic the avatars looked, and they moved like they were perfectly real. And then with Pandora and the alien life. It is the most alien, alien planet I have ever seen. The closest would be Felucia from Revenge of the Sith, but that was only seen for seconds. I literally gasped when we saw close-ups of some of the life there, and would have sworn they were real creatures, but still like nothing I have seen before. And the plant-life was the same. Gorgeous and diverse and real, but so alien.

Of course, the story is somewhat familiar, but still relevent, and with enough new elements for it to not be at all distracting. And the characters are more convincing than anything I can remember seeing in a movie. Its hard to develop characters in a 2 hour movie compared to a well-developed TV series. But somehow they really managed to do it in this one, when you would think alien characters would make it harder. This must be, in large part, due to excellent acting, but not to forget every single other detail that contributed in making this feel real. When I saw the humans destroying the Na'vi's home, I really felt for them. I was extremely sad. There were so many moments where it was all I could do to stop myself from jumping from my seat and crying out with excitement. I felt like I was going to explode holding it in. I really havent felt that involved in a movie since Star Wars. Wow! Maybe this needs to move up a few spots.

Now I know what ppl meant when they were saying real-life feels boring after Avatar. Who doesnt want to be a Na'vi now?

And I feel like this review hasnt even scratched the surface of how awesome Avatar is.

The narrative would be ho-hum without the spectacle. But what spectacle! Avatar is dizzying, enveloping, vertiginous ... I ran out of adjectives an hour into its 161 minutes. full review

This movie was amazing 5 stars all around. a few bits were predictable but everything else made up for that. in 3d its hard to blink in case you miss something. i dont care about praising the director, the special effects company Weta deserves all the praise. imagine how hard they worked to produce a movie like this.

I see many people on here knocking the 3d experience..im here to tell you that if you watched this movie in 2d..you would miss a lot of the color that makes Pandora beautiful..i watched this on a H.D.screen in 3d..and when i removed my glasses..there was a great loss of color..also i see people criticizing the fact that the dialog is a bit short of words...while that may be true..sometimes a ton of words are not needed to convey sentiment..The flow of the movie and the actions taken by the people speak louder than words...Funny how when Quentin Tarantino makes a movie with limited dialog...that is so whacked you can hardly understand it..the whole world jumps on the bandwagon..while the story may have borrowed from other like stories..It is science fiction...and No one criticizes musicians who quite frequently borrow from each other to create top 10 hits..Maybe James Cameron is still way ahead of his time..
