The story takes her through the heyday of romantic ballet in the 1800s, when Marie Taglioni and Carlotta Grisi created roles in "La Sylphide" and "Giselle", to the exciting period of the Ballets Russes, when Anna Pavlova and Tamara Karsavina starred in "Les Sylphides" and "Spectre de la Rose". Peter Ustinov stars as Théophile Gautier, who wrote the libretto for "Giselle", and Serge Diaghilev, the impressario who nurtured many of the most brilliant dancers (Nijinsky, Pavlova), choreographers (Fokine, Massine, Balanchine) and scenic artists (Bakst, Benois).
