It's hard to believe, after waiting 14 years, we wind up with this piece of cinematic garbage. The original was a high impact, dark thriller that achieved "cult" status demonstrating the fine art of cinema as directed by Paul Verhoeven. This film adds nothing, delivers nothing, a...( read more)

Not a bad sequel considered it was torn apart by critics. Doesn't quite have the same steaminess of the original or quite as good a plot. However if you are a fan of thrillers you should enjoy the little twists in this. Also shows off some of London for a change.

apparently "basic instint2" is far from its ancestor, a legend built by the trio of michael douglas, paul verhoeven and of course sharon stone. but in a way, it is slightly underrated. most people overlook one thing: it is a campy parody of the original basic instinct despite cam...( read more)
Critic Reviews
The 1992 phenomenon was creepy, tense and sexually charged in a bold yet tawdry way. This sequel lacks even a shred of those elements. full review
If you're trying to reinvigorate the art of the stylish thriller, the movie you come up with needs to be stylish and it needs to be thrilling. Basic Instinct 2, written by Leora Barish and Henry Bean ... full review
Despite all the heavy breathing and mood lighting, Basic Instinct 2 is so dull that you might find yourself easily distracted by side issues. full review
Stone's purring, snarling, bedroom kink is embarrassing. full review
This movie rocks ... by boldly embracing the preposterousness at the
core of its story right away, and then moving on to more important
things like ultra-nasty sex [and] hyper-lurid dialogue. full review
Here is a movie so outrageous and preposterous it is either (a) suicidal or (b) throbbing with a horrible fascination. I lean toward (b). full review
The laughs to be had in this deliciously awful sequel are all unintentional. A bummer for film buffs, but a ball for fans of the misbegotten. full review
Basic Instinct 2 is as dull as a blunt ice pick, watering down the original film's knockout cocktail of kinky sex and bloody murder into a timid, tepid thriller. full review

April 15, 2007I don't care what anyone says, this movie is better then alot of the crap out recently. Its Basic Instinct for the 21st century. Sharon Stone gives one of her few great performances and plot is better then expected. And we don't have to see Michael Douglas's saggy old man ass

I think that says enough about why no one should ever see Basic Instinct 2.
