Clique comes to mind? A typical killer monster film, and a low budget Z-list cast to round off the excellence.

In 112AD during a solar eclipse, an arab tribe turned the dreaded Basilisk to stone using the Eye of medusa, a solid gold septre with a stunning diamond mount. Skip f...( read more)oward to present day and Harry, Rudy and Sierra acheolagist dig up the Stone creature and septre and bring it back to the US college. Weeks later the big unvailing of the exhibite takes place during a solar eclipse and the Basilisk returns flesh and blood with a mean killing streak.

The remained of the film centres around the guys turning to stop the huge snake from tearing people to shreads, eating them, or turning them into stone statues with the glance of its serpent eyes.

Some good acting from Jeremy London as Harry and Rudy played by Griff Furst was funny to watch providing great funny one liners. Also Yancy Butler as the rich bitch Hannah was great to watch, especially her screaming obsenities at the Basilisk when it eats her Gucci dress.

Provided some interesting mythology and facts to play the mythical beasty angle, but lacks substance, nothing that hasn't been done before and to much better standard, and some of the special effects with the esception of the creature are dire, very badly done, including the poor actor/ computer interactions and the computerised 'blood splatter'.

Better off watching anaconda or godzilla.

It all begins back in 112AD in Cyrenaica when a group of arabs set out to kill the dreaded snake-like beast that with a single look can turn people to stone. Of course this does make things tricky, but thankfully one of them has got a magic sceptre, the rest of course have to se...( read more)ttle for blind-folding themselves and are armed with daggers. Thankfully they are able to turn it to stone with the sceptre, but fast forward to present day and some archeologists start to dig up the pesky beastie and as usual some Arabs turn up and given their warning of the bad things that will happen blah blah blah. With a surprisingly good opening I thought this was going to one damn fine low budget creature feature, but unforunately it does start to tail off. The basilisk tears it's way through a large portion of people in a museum (with the curator played by Stephen Furst playing Vir from Babylon 5) and even in a shopping centre. The film contains lots more cliches from the bumbling thieves to the "I'm running from a large scary monster in a sewer, but I just heard a strange noise so I'll investigate" security guard. The writers even took the time to throw in 3 geeks in the shopping centre playing D&D, who upon seeing the basilisk debate whether it was a dragon, a basilisk, or a wyvern. All in all not a bad film with good special effects considering that this is one of cheap Sci-Fi channel films.
