Nothing great here. The stories don't really bring anything to the table, unlike the great anime production for The Matrix (The Animatrix). The actual animation has is good bits, in places, where the style really comes through. However, overall this collection of tales isn't something to shout about and it's a bit of a let-down.
The animation bugged the hell out of me. I did enjoy one of the stories more than anything else. It's the one that was just straight up Anime where it features an awful looking Killer Croc and a great version of the Scarecrow.
Batman's cape was terrible looking.
"Animatrix" meets Batman. This unique piece of art is divided into 6 short animated films. Each film is somewhat tied to the others yet each are very different in action, story, animation and theme. It is very interesting to watch and holds your attention through and through. I would recommend this film to anyone who likes anime(esque) film and who likes Batman. I'd certainly watch it again with someone who liked the two.
Too short! Give me morrrrre.
Aside from the first short piece, which I didn't love. The rest of these are absolutely amazing for Batman fans such as myself. Far too short though, they're like little teases.
As if The Dark Knight wasn't enough to put me in a Batman craze, along came this film as the icing on the cake. For those who are familiar to or have seen The Animatrix, I can inform that this one is built on the same exact concept, meaning it's not a full-length movie per definition, but a series of short animated films made by various artists and directors. Most of them were good both story- and animation-wise, while others (altough thankfully in a minority here) didn't really interest me at all. In that sense, this is in many ways a mixed bag, altough one that, as a whole, can only be described as very cool and visually impressive.
tHis was very inventive in the way that it showed different aspects of it!! and it was really good at certain times at others it was a lottle obnoxious!! and I liked only like 3 of the batmans!!

It's planned for a release window of two to four weeks prior to the release of The Dark Knight, and would bridge the gap between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.
I was so disappointed by this one. Even with the Batman high that everyone is at the moment, this series of short movies by different anime directors was too uneven with only two real stories that felt like they belonged. If you see it, "Crossfire" and "Deadshot" were my favorites while "Have I Got a Story for You" was the weakest. Too bad because I was really hyped for this one.
Batman: Gotham Knight is an animated film surrounding the Batman character and arriving around the same time as The Dark Knight, it fits into Christopher Nolan's Batman universe.Story wise, this 70 minute animation is choppy. This is because the film is broken into 6 chapters or segments. Yes, there is some continuity throughout, but each segment can stand on its own since certain villains show up in certain segments. Sorry, there is no one major villain in this film. One segment even takes the time to focus on Bruce Wayne's training in the earlier days.
Visually, this animation is alright, but not great. It falls in between the typical cartoon like Teen Titans and a Japanese anime like Cowboy Bebop. If you think about it, it is pretty close to something like The Boondocks. The atmosphere is dark, which is nice, and the violence is bloody. This is PG-13 and I think that is the right rating, but it is close to an R rating as well.
The voice work isn't too bad. The characters with the foreign accents, like Cassandra and Ramirez, are good while most of the other characters, including James Gordon, Alfred, and Lucius Fox, are simply OK.
This animation is a step up from a bunch of other animations, but there is still room for improvement. In the end, it is a good watch for Batman fanatics.
This wasn't as good as I was hoping it would be, but it still had its moments. I guess the translation doesn't work as well as most (and I) figured it would. Who knows.....
I'm interested in how Batman made the transition into anime. But what I've heard from reviews, it's between mediocre and average. Better rent/reserve it and not waste money.
this is an awesome movie, with 6 awesome interlocking stories. It's a shame that the scarecrow and killer croc were used for like 5 minutes. I thought the idea of kevin conroy voicing batman again was genious, and the three versions of batman in the 1st story were creative.
I definetly recommend this to any batman fan.
poor. one of the six segments was okay, the rest just retread stories with horrible animation. i own it.
6 short anime films of varying quality. They range from totally fucking shitty (Have I Got a Story For You, Field Test), to totally fucking AWESOME(In Darkness Dwells, Deadshot). Overall I'd say it breaks down to 60% suck / 40% awesome.
Subway Bum: Hey Bats, when your flying around above the city, whats it look like?
Batman: It looks dirty.
Similar to the Animatrix, this DVD is comprised of six animated shorts, written and directed by a different people. The overall connection of these shorts serves as a bridge between Nolan's Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Besides serving as a good way to quell my waiting for The Dark Knight to come out, in terms of story, some are better than others, but the overall animation and music on each is wonderful. Its also nice that Kevin Conroy again stars as the voice of Batman/Bruce Wayne, seeing as how he's been doing it in animation form for nearly 20 years.
Batman: I work through pain!
The first short is Have I Got a Story For You. (3.5 stars) It involves a group of kids each telling a story about their encounter with the Batman. All the kids have their own perspective on what the Bat looks like as well.
Crossfire is next (4.5 stars). This story involves two cops arguing over the effectiveness of a vigilante in the city during a drive back from Arkham, when they suddenly are in the middle of a mob shootout. Batman arrives in time to show how effective he is.
Next is Field Test (3 stars). This story shows Batman testing out his hi-tech gadgets. While effective, Batman decides to only go to certain lengths after a side effect of a device causes problems.
Bruce Wayne: I'm willing to put my life on the line to do what I have to. But it has to be mine, no one else's.
In Darkness Dwells another one of the best shorts (4.5 stars). This story involves Batman's search for a deformed criminal known as Killer Croc and the Scarecrow who still roams under the city and uses his fear toxin. He works with Lt. Gordon this time around as well.
The next story is Working Through the Pain (4 stars). This is a dual story involving Batman's struggle with an injury to get out from under the city and flashbacks involving an early part of Bruce Wayne's life where he works with a spiritual women in search of finding out how to conquer pain.
Alfred: Give me your hand sir
[Batman standing in a sewer with handful of guns, further understanding the harsh reality he is apart of]
Batman: I can't
The last short is Deadshot (4.5). This story involves Batman facing of against a deadly assassin targeting not only cops but Batman as well.
As mentioned, all of the shorts are very well animated and scored wonderfully, which makes this whole thing worthwhile. Nicely done.
Lt. James Gordon: [Batman's been bitten by Croc] Are you in pain?
Batman: I work through pain.
what a waste of of a dollar cd this looked like a retard ape got a box of markers for Christmas and they printed everything it colored the only thing that looks good is the cover
this batman is the batman ever, because heath ledger made the movie very interesting playing as a joker. I would recommend this to watch.
Great animation, varying styles applied to Batman, all very plausible and interesting, none that are wacky.
I like Batman so I wanted to see this, but I could only watch the first 1 1/2 parts. Sadly it sucks.
A mixed bag of animation styles provide differing interpretations of Batman - some are better than others but they're all worth a watch. Not quite the prequel to Dark Knight they'd have you believe though.
Series of 6 short films that bridge the gap between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. The animation is brilliant and if you're a big fan of Batman AND animation then you'll probably love this.Personally i'm not a fan of animated stuff so found it a little hard to get into but it was still quite interesting and very well made.
A fine compliment to the Nolanverse, this Batmanime shows us what became of the Narrows, introduces us to Gordon's MCU, and is a far more cohesive whole than the scattered stories that made up the Animatrix. Having said that, though, the Animatrix is better. Certain segments here don't work as well as others, and it feels a bit short. Always a treat to hear Kevin Conroy voice Batman, however. It's must-watch stuff for fans, but probably not of much interest to everyone else. The Deadshot and Killer Croc segments, however, are excellent, and should entertain just about any viewer.
I really hope this "anime companion" sort of thing that hits DVD as the big show hits theatres. More franchises should be looking to add depth to their universes in this way, and as ARGs become a bigger and bigger part of film marketing, I have to think the DVD companion will too, as studios are trying to make their franchises as immersive as possible. Hope so anyway, I love watchin' em.
A cool smattering of different anime styles that is visually entertaining, but the plots aren't exactly Spawn material, even though they are a bit more mature than the many Saturday morning Batman shows.
Definitely worth a watch for Batman fans, but not unique enough as an anime compilation for me to recommend it as a top animated movie. In other words, this ain't no "Animatrix" and this DEFINITELY ain't no "Memories", but it's a cool pastiche, though shittily written.
