Battle Royale II started out very well. A new class and a new game. The game was switched up enough to not be a repatition of the first, but had a similar feel. The budget was beefed up from the first one and it's evident in film quality. The battle scenes have a strong "Saving Private Ryan" to them. The movie strays somewhere in the middle. I'm not against the direction they took, but the feel of the movie switched and got way too lengthy. BRII could've been trimmed down by 30 minutes. I thought the movie was about to end 3 different times and it kept going. Overall still entertaining, probably not what your hoping for in comparison to the first.
it started off really good but then just kinda leveled out and it was just good but not great so i liked the 1st better with the plot and the game objectives that one had
I just died a little inside. Tries way to hard to outdo the original and fails miserably. Overly preachy, over directed action sequences, plot holes galore, and the film feels like it goes on forever. The perfect example of a shitty sequel.
This movie has lots of plot holes. First, it introduces the daughter of the leader of the first battle royale program, and how she winded up in this school. Then she's forgotten about. Then the story throws in a ton of characters with no dialogue, and by the time you learn their names, there dead. And the story has the worst twist, (spoilers ahead) but it involves a magical neck brace cutting device. Nothing like the first Battle Royale which is probably my favorite movie of all time
Man what a joke. Don't waste your time to see that movie. It has no comparison with the first one. I realized the movie was wrong when I laughed at the most tragic scenes... espacially during the main talks of Shuya.
seriously, the only people that like the original battle royale are idiots. i'm allowing no wiggle room in this. you are an idiot if you like that movie. seriously.
This one has a pretty decent storyline... The kids aren't fighting each other this time, they're sent to work as a team to kill the last remaining contestant from the first Battle Royale who is now acting as a terrorist against the adults...Got a bit serious at times but it's not too bad... It's really just a war film with kids!
What can I say other than "this sucks because it is completely without direction and a resounding theme (or even just a decent one) but instead is just a restaging of many famous battle scenes, except with teenaged kids in stupid uniforms (they have ORANGE in them) instead of Nazis, Navy Seals, Green Berets, or typical adult army grunts". Here the "kids' view vs. the grownups' view" is downplayed due to an emphasis on a political commentary on the United States as a nation that is obsessed with "bombing terrorists" and has the long list of nations bombed to prove it (That's what the lesson is at the beginning, not stuff about BR and the internal stresses in Japanese society causing the BR Act, but which countries the US has bombed in the last fifty years (to which I say, look at everyone else's records too; fifty years is a long time). But I guess it is saying something about the outgoing Bushie that even as early as 2003, foreign genre films were already laced with an anti-Bush backbone. Another large statement is trying to be made about "terrorists", how the only difference between "revolutionary" and "terrorist" is the outcome of the declared war. A true thing, but not communicated properly; they should have read Alan Moore's "V for Vendetta" granted the movie version wasn't out yet but that central idea and concise execution has existed for hundreds of years. Just take a better model from the political war genre and plug in your characters and instantly this could have been a great B version of 'City of God'. Get the first movie in a high definition version; don't waste time on this misstep of a sequel.
Mostly boring and shitty but has a few inspired bits of insanity up its sleeve that earns it a couple of stars. I'd like to see the chick that plays Kitano's daughter in something with a decent director. She could be good.
GOD AWFUL!!! If you loved the first one, this one was murdered and then stabbed repeatably!!! Granted the idea was somewhat cool, but I felt as if characters were moved around way too much and the acting was WAY below par.
Started off promising but then it just got stupid and lost the plot. Didint really know what was going on, why did the teacher have a collar? why did he turn up at the end in shorts and rugby top and kill himself like a wierdo? why did they all not just run down the tunnel? what was Nanahara's speach all about? wierd. apart from that it was ok.
Who's ready for round 2,the battle royale programme still lives on with another class in for the fight to live but this time have to kill the terrorist group that are trying to stop battle royale.Almost as good as the first and more violence than a snuff film but still the beautiful emotion thrown in make it another classic.
Apparently not many agree, but nonetheless I think this is a fair sequel, obviously not in the same league as the first, but that's a hard movie to top! Although the plot is very silly, it's still an enjoyable watch even just for the various deaths. The new twist on the game is great fun, even though it lacks the best character from BR1. The main flaw- it's far too slow, and drags towards the end, but I'd still love to see it again sometime...
The return to Battle Royale. While nowhere near as good as the original in terms of suspense and shocking violence, it introduces the comeback of the kids and one of my personal favourites, Oshinari Shugo. This plays more like a war film than the assassinations of the first movie.
THIS WAS A LITTLE SLOWER THAN THE FIRST, AND A LITTLE MORE EMOTIONAL, OR TRIED TO BE ANYWAY. BUT IT WAS A LITTLE OVERDONE AND PEOPLE JUST KINDA STARTED THROWING THEIR LIVES AWAY FOR LITTLE OR NO GAIN. I DUNNO,IT WASN'T TOO BAD THOUGH.
An alright movie in my view, some found it better than others but i think there needed to be more character developement and perhaps i faster pace. all in all i found it to be a copy of the first one with some unimaginative twists addded to try and get audiences to keep watching. seriously the guy saying "BR2" all the time, what the hell... then again sequels almost never live up to their predicessors and should be rated as an individual film and not on the merits of the first movie (which was awesome).
A great sequel to a great film, the best sequel i have seen in years not as good as the original which is the greatest film ever made but darn good anyways.
Not as good as the first film, however it ain't at all bad.. I found it was slower moving, but that might be because I saw the first one, and (thought) I knew what I was in store for.... I think the end is a bit to long for what it is, but nonetheless, it's still a great film!!
