I liked it!! More than I thought I would. It's very tragic but yet has a relatively happy ending. I liked the black humor throught the movie.

This film demands that you absolutely place yourself into the fantasy of Battle Royale. From a critical viewpoint, it could be viewed as absurd to the highest degree. From a fantastic viewpoint, it is creative, nightmarish, excessive, violent, and contains great cinematography. A great film to get lost in.

Social commentary? What's the take home message, I wonder? If it's to depict Japan as a nation lost to meaningless ritual in a drive for national progress, where life is are valueless, then yes. ... But mainly its about sticking kids in a situation where they are forced to kill each other. Anyone feel changed by this? Anyone stirred up to change society? No? Thought not.

The central premise is fundamentally ridiculous, for so many reasons - not least of which is that the result of this game would be to create a society of barbarism, not discipline. But that's not to say it's all bad as a film. It does manage to create sympathy for its characters. And, there is also a level in which it works as a contemporary retelling of Lord of the Flies, though it does not agree with the underlying motif that all of us have a heart of sin, for a spirit of co-operation exists amongst the children.

Excellent Japanese Science Fiction action flick is one of the best of it's kind to come out of Japan in recent memory. It's gory and violent to the max, the film is quite controversial on it's subject matter and is one movie you gotta find to see to believe.

I'll get the phone, don't worry about it. "You know a lot about medicine." "Well, my father was a doctor."

Pretty cheesy at parts but overall a solid action flick with a nifty premise. Kitano rules the movie as is to be expected.

I actually prefer the shorter version to the directors cut.

The most controversial movie in Japan that was nearly banned. The subject matter has already stir a lot of media controversial topics but nonetheless, a well crafted movie that deals with emotional human drama and morale. Most of the stars that acted in this movie have become well-known actors. A not to be missed movie!

I'll give this movie a few stars for its originality but because of it's blatant attempt at being shocking, it came off as pretentious, uninteresting, and too silly to be taken seriously. It came off more as a silly, immature black comedy than and thriller.

    Great idea but poorly executed.

While the deviations from the plot of the original novel at times make the plot nonsensical the over-the-top violence and melodramatic death scenes with deadpan intertitles make ths a great movie in its own right.

Controversial and challenging, gory and violent, thought provoking and satirical. These words come to mind when I think of Battle Royale.

The concept of the film is very simple - once every year a class of young people chosen at random is stranded on a small island and armed with various weapons and are forced to kill each other until there is only one student left.

This film is a metaphor of Japanese Education system and is a story of a Japan so out of control that in order to regain control the government stage a survival game.

This film carries one of the most extreme taglines I have ever heard of, "Could you kill your best friend?" and I recommend it to everyone except people with weak stomachs or someone who doesn't appreciate horror/black comedy movies.

Amazing movie with a powerful ;story and acting. The B.R program consists of a class every 3 days being kidnapped and taken to an isolated island where they have days to kill each other or die , only one is allowed to survive and not to mention the island has timed danger zones so if anybody goes there they will die by the explosive collar each student has on their neck.Top notch violence and very upsetting scenes make it a night to remember, definitely a must see. So could you kill your best friend....

This is something that would never be allowed to be made in North America ... kid's killing kid's. It really leaves everything a possibility and it shows how unfair and cruel life really is. How people will do anything possible including killing other humans and especially friends just to save themselves and will go to no lengths to succeed. Really this awesome flick shows us and puts what the world is really like into perspective.

I have one word or rather name.. Kiriyama. If you have no desire to see this film for the plot then watch it just for that character who is portrayed beautifully by Masanobu Ando.

Been meaning to watch this highly hyped movie for a long time and it definitely lived up to my expectations. First off, this premise is already chilling and the movie wastes no time in delivering the gore and ruthlessness in killing plus the change in human nature when they feel someone is threatening their life, even their own close friends. Definitely one of the better japanese movies i have watched. Highly recommended!

Such a brilliant film. One of the best Japanese films i've ever. Seen and that is saying something because i've seen quite a few and they have all been amazing. I've been dying to see it for ages so it was great to finally get a hold of a copy. And as everyone said, I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. The acting was just amazing from all the young actors. Takeshi Kitano gives an outstanding performance as he always does. He never fails to deliver. Disturbing and brilliant. Horrifing and outstanding. It takes everything to the extreme but somehow doesn't over do it. Everything works so well. It's a must see film that has to be seen even if you have to kill someone to get a copy of it.

This film is so good that in my opinion it can stand alone from the manga any day. The only reason it is marked down is Fujiwara Tatsuya's constantly screaming character (I don't blame him given the circumstances, but he's very amateurish about it). But what's not to love about a group of shock-collared Japanese schoolkids told to fight it out to the death?

Sometime in the near future, anarchy has broken out in Japan. The government has to act. On the way to what a class of 14-year-olds believe is a school trip, they are drugged. When they wake up, in a derelict building on a deserted island, they're each given enough provisions for three days and a weapon.
