The only reason this movie was somewhat watchable was to laugh at John Travolta and Forest Whitaker in their silly costumes and make-up. I can't believe I actually saw the whole film. Piece of garbage that is only viewable as a comedy.

Scientology guru L Ron Hubbard started out with this dreck. His books were hideous hack meat, but for some reason, he was popular, and he started a religion, er cult, after that. This is one of his books made into a John Travolta movie, where he plays an alien called Turl, a Psychlo (sounds like psycho), on a captured Earth in 3000. (In the book it was 2000, because it was done in the 70s). Turl is a mean alien, but for some reason he decides to do something incredibly stupid. He knows if the slave humans are made smart, it will be trouble, so he does it anyway. He educates a bunch if primitve humans in geometry and physics, (using a Scientology-like mind device) and they start using sophisticated fighter jets that shouldn't have any gas left in them. And then something unintensionally funny happens to their methan rich planet. Ha! Okay, just assume it is 3000, unlike the book, nothing with gas would work. No planes. Assume also nukes would have corrided long ago. No story. It would have not made snense to set in in 2000, (when that stuff works), but then again, it doesn't make any sense. This movie is revoltingly bad. It's not even so bad it's good. The Psychlos are about as scary and cool as going to watch plants grow on a hydroponics shelf, or trying to decipher what anyone was thinking green-lighting this horrid movie. Not just the worst science fiction movie of 2000, or of this decade, but probably since the book came out! Wow. "Take them and see how they like it!" hahahaha! Dialogue was not even dialogue in this movie.

I so wanted to walk out on this movie, but I was on a first date & since she was the one that recommended this, I didn't want to diminish my chances of getting laid. Probably the only movie that I ever sat thru where upon the diasterous feeling that resulted from watching it, along with the diaster that the movie itself is, overwhelmed the story of diaster that the movie was supposed to depict.
I may have survived watching this movie,
but the sane aspect of my mind & every part of my soul have been permanently scarred.
A diaster flick in every sense that is possible to imagine.

So why did I award this film even a half-star?
B'cuz at one point, there are scenes that have cavemen flying around in Harrier jets.
And with those kinds of balls, this movie, at least, deserves something ....

The badness of this thing is legendary, almost unbelievable. You must see for yourself (no, actually, you shouldn't).

this has been hailed a world flop and nothing i have seen of the film in trailers and clips has inspired me to think otherwise.

There are few, if any, redeeming qualities for Battlefield Earth. Critics are singing a near-unanimous rotten song.

Does anyone have any idea how much they spent to make this film? How is it that money can be thrown out the window on crap like this, yet people are still starving to death?

Everything was wrong with this except for the fact that it had a beginning, middle, and end. I couldn't even sit through it again with RiffTrax. Half a star because Forest Whitaker regretted taking part in this mess. Another half for the cow scene.

I think you know everything you need to know about this movie when you find out that Forest Whitaker stated he regrets having participated in it.

This incredible butt of a film aspires to be crap. In fact, to call this film crap is an insult to actual crap.

This movie should never see the light of day ever again. Nobody should ever have to be put through the agony of watching this yawn of a movie. The story line was rubbish the acting was sub-par. Stay away from this one or atleast keep a hot poker handy so you can poke your eyes out cause after few minutes watching this movie a hot poker to the eyes might be less painfull.

This film is an even bigger joke than the "church" of Scientology. Hopefully that gives you an idea of how profoundly horrible the movie truly is.

I think when your film becomes the example people use to describe how bad other movies are (e.g. - "That movie was bad, I mean, not Battlefield Earth bad, but it was still pretty bad")....THAT'S when you're on a whole new level. What's worse is that Forest Whitaker is in this too...and Barry Pepper is a pretty decent actor too....how much could the paychecks REALLY have been? You couldn't POSSIBLY have read the script and said "yeah, that sounds really good" -- no way.

The concept had merit, but the movie just plain sucked.

Travolta & Whitaker did a fine job for what it was, and I guess that counts for half a star...

Not the worst film I've ever seen, but one of the most technically inept films I've ever seen released by a major studio.

I have to say this is by far the worst movie I have ever seen that was released theatrically, I have seen better B-movies that have been released straight to dvd.

You know ever horrible, bloody ridiculous thing you've heard about this movie? It's all true, and more so. Travolta's odd choice to play the Machiavellian vassal of a conquerer race as an effete moron with substance abuse problems was an interesting one indeed.

This is the sort of movie I watch for a laugh. There are a few laughs, but it is very VERY difficult to make it through, even on that level.

I had a hard time deciding how to rate this. On one hand, I loved watching it. But that's only because I had a rifftrack from the mst3k guys playing along with it. The movie itself is absolute, complete, crap. Bad acting, bad and often pandering directing, horrible story, terrible scripting. The movie is amazing simply for getting very nearly everything wrong that it possibly could. Some of the special effects were passable, but that was about it.
