Plot: After the destruction of the human colonies, the last major fighter carrier leads a makeshift refugee fleet in a search for Earth.
havent seen it though make it a favorite on sheer anti anticipation in the fact that my want for this to be the best picture ever made clearly overwelms the fact that it would be almost as great a disappointment as finding out the greatest show on the known side of the universe is only quite dull and just a little suspensefull for only the next episode or for the current one to be over already lol. A, don`t want to spoil my childhood memories . . hahahaha
a childhood favorite of a tv show (disregarding the crap that was "galactica 1980"). while i've become a bigger fan of the reimagining, i still have soft spot for the original!
Great science fiction story, but I didn't feel like there was an ending to it. I think the TV series continues the story, and this was just the beginning. I felt that some of their designs in this movie came from Star Wars, though, but it did have an original story, so I enjoyed it.
If this is the butchered movie version of the TV show then BOOOOOoooooooo.
The TV show doesn't hold up when it's chopped up and cut up into just small parts to be shown on the big screen.
i really liiked the t.v series and enjoyed the movie but i think for me it was the second time around
Am I the only person who paid to watch this in the theater? I waited for months for it to come out. I really preferred the ending of this film to the ending of the two part opener for the television series adapted from this film.
This is cheesy as hell, and is obviously a blatant ripoff of "Star Wars". However, I love this film and I loved the TV series that succeeded it. Kudos to the people that made the new "Battlestar" as good as it is. The new series almost makes me forget the cheesiness of the original.
Even though I adore Jane Seymour, this was awful, not her fault, except she must've been broke to do this clinker.
I'll battlestar YOUR Galactica!
(Okay, okay, that had to be done, I'll stop with this lame joke... eventually...)
The pilot movie for the original series was always my favorite. John Dykstra did the special effects so you know it's going to be good.
Yes, the movie is bad. But is it entertaining? It can be. It only depends on your willingness to make fun of everything. The villains look silly. Stupidity is the main plot engine. The effects are recycled and don't even look for the time. Clothes look goofy. The plot is stupid. And don't even get me started on the screenplay, director and actors performance. Bu to be fair, the soundtrack is a classic.
It's not because there is a much better and celebrated remake, but I've always thought that the old 'Battlestar Galactica' was dated, senseless and cheesy (much like late 70s decadent disco excesses). Watch this if you are feeling nostalgic only.
Trashy TV special shown in cinemas in an attempt to cash in on the popularity of Star Wars. It's pure 70s cheese from beginning to end, and that's part of it's appeal. And Starbuck is even cooler than the Face man! Entertainingly kitsch junk that really only has value for the nostalgic.
I haven't seen the movie itself (downloading ) but new series i have seen till now - just great , You just HAVE to see it .
Seemed like a Star Wars rip off and very bad effects, cheesy lines. The new Battlestar Galactica is MUCH better!
Have not seen the old one but is totally caught by the 1st season from 2004. I want more, so why not give the old one a shot?! and season 2 of course ;)
This could have been the movie of the decade, but had the disadvantage of having been released at the same time as star wars.
The movie became the TV Show Pilot Episode for one of the biggest TV Hits of the 80s.
Though FX might seem a little old now, even with all the script holes, it's impossible not to love this movie, as well as the tv show.
Adama, Apollo and Starbuck will forever be in our minds and hearts, along with the tin one eyed men that putted us all saying : "by your command"
As the pilot to a TV series, the acting's not totally polished, but I can't help it. I love this film!
I loved the series as a kid and thought Starbuck (Dirk Benedict) was the perfect rouge. Even though it may seem corny now it's leaps and bounds above that cheap soap opera the SciFi channel is trying to sell us now - ick!
I know, I know. It was a Star Wars/Star Trek knock off. But what hell of a knock off! For a sci-fi geek. lol. Whatever... I LOVE GALACTICA!
I prefer the new version to this ole one, but it's still an interesting story. Lorne Green commands the last surviving Battlestar after a devistating attack aganst their home planets, and they pack up and head out to deep space fighting to survive, looking for earth. The first half of this movie was good, but the silly second half slowed it down a bit. A young Jane Seymour was very watchable .
I can't believe they made a remake better than the original. Still, the original was good for its time.

Yeah the original is great!
But the Cylons have evolved... and so has Galactica
The new series are maybe the best written, best performed and directed series of the decade.
If you agree with me,
You're fraking welcome to the fleet.
So say we all!!!
