I liked this movie. It reminded me of barbershop. This is definitly a chick flick. Gina opens her own beautyshop after being fed up with her bosses attitude.
This awful spin-off to the Barbershop saga is just a dreadfully unfunny mess, for the sassy girl set. Queen Latifa gets her own movie, but it is not charming or funny, and just being sassy is not going to work, although it is closer to the standard overacting black American comedies that popped up around it since Barbershop.
she does a great job on this film. shows that a young business person can make it after all. with determination and friends and as well to fight for what u believe.
This wouldn't be a bad movie, if only they didn't spend so much time prancing around with that black attitude. If white people acted like that, they would be called racist. So I'm calling this movie RACIST and disgusting.
After being pushed by Jorge one too many times, Gina buys a dilapidated beauty salon in southwest Atlanta and tries to make it on her own. She brings a sweet country bumpkin shampoo girl named Lynn (Alicia Silverstone, Clueless) with her from Jorge's, because she sees that Lynn has skills beyond shampooing. She also inherits some of the shop's previous stylists Miss Josephine (Alfre Woodard, St. Elsewhere), Paulette (Laura Hayes, The Queens of Comedy), and Chanel (Golden Brooks, Girlfriends) all of whom are chock-full of attitude. A few of Jorge's clients follow her as well, including a cheated-upon Southern belle (Andie MacDowell) and a shallow, vapid trophy blonde (Mena Suvari, American Beauty). For eye candy, there's also a handsome upstairs neighbor who's also a good electrician (Djimon Hounsou, Amistad), and a hunky truck driver-turned-braider (Omari Hardwick). Needless to say, Jorge doesn't cotton to Gina's plans to compete with him, and decides to take action. This film has everything sexy black women, sexy white women, sexy black men, a sexy white man, sass, attitude, Rudy, catfish, dirty dancing, one degree of Kevin Bacon. Beauty Shop is a light, fun story of adversity overcome with exuberant talent and persistence.
This was just something I flipped to on the TV just to pass the time, but I did think it was entertaining. I loved the craziness that went on in the shop, and seeing Alicia kick it with the gals was priceless!
i loved every second of this film. It is well worth the watch and the romantic scenes are very nicely acted too. Kudos to Djimon Hounsou!! Brilliant actor. Queen Latifah is beautiful, sharp and witty as always.
The movie starts as normal woman works on a beauty saloon and something doesnt work right with her bose, she opens her own one..
It sure is Entertaining as you get to see the True Events of what goes on in a beauty shops.. A Gossiping World in a other word. The movie has no boring parts although it wasent appreaciated by many audience, it does really need someone to understand the language and also to appreaciate other genre films.
This movie is a roller coaster ride. Kevin Bacon as Queen Latifah's competition was a sure fire hoot! This movie will make you cry and make you laugh. It a real treat to watch. The whole ensemble in this film ROCKED!
Beauty Shop Summary:
While the men of Barbershop and Barbershop 2 have plenty to mouth off about, they may have met their match in the female staff and clientele of a nearby beauty shop. Directed by Bille Woodruff, Beauty Shop revolves around these women led by Gina (Queen Latifah), who opened Beauty Shop to give all the females in the community, from a conservative Southern socialite (Andie MacDowell) to a poetry-reciting stylist, a place to talk about life, love, and the issues of the day, all while getting their hair done. Bryce Wilson puts in a supporting performance, as does Kevin Bacon, who plays the snooty owner of a rival salon.
