Was really good, it has a very goo story line to it. Anne and James were fantastic in it. It has a lot of remance and the troubles it can cause. but over all it was very addicting .
This movie is beautiful, yet heartbreaking at the same time. I often wonder why we watch such films, why we put ourselves through such pain, such unhappy endings. I didn't really know the life story of Jane Austen, save for that she never married, and through the whole movie I was thinking "Dear goodness, they're going to break our hearts aren't they?" and it turns out they did. Or rather Jane did. By doing the unselfish thing. By giving up love. By Becoming Jane
ughhh i luv this movie ive seen it 5 times now nd i still cry, excuse me i end up BAWLING at the end of the movie every time their is so much romance!!! i luv it<3 just a hint i would luv this movie for my birthday!!!!
This movie is one of my top favs. I have the best real kiss in my opinion. I could watch it all day. Anne pulls out another great performance and her counterpart James is equally as great.
What a pain it was to grow up in the time of Jane Austin. All these rules around gender, class and wealth and having to learn complicated dances. Aren't we lucky we don't live in the late 18th century.
It doesn't exactly follow the life story of Jane Austen, but then most Hollywood biopics don't do justice to the people they are telling the story about. It seems more like a story that was adapted from a novel written by Jane Austen herself, than Austen's own personal tale. As a movie, however, it's not bad. It's a great romance that is grounded by the harsh realities of the society and period in which it occurs. James McAvoy's performance is great and brings incredible charm to his character.
Truly a beautiful film that encapsulates much of the wit, grace, and charm of Miss Austen's own exquisite works. This story of her life is so compelling and bittersweet. It truly warms the heart of a hopeless romantic like myself to know that someone with the gifted talent of Miss Austen held fast to a deep belief in love, even in the face of life's many difficult obstacles and challenges. Despite the inconvenient circumstances of her own life and the lives of others living in "reality," she was so remarkably adept at envisioning and delivering true happiness for her characters through her exceptional craft. In this sense, she always acknowledged the difficulties with which we are all presented in real life, yet never gave up hope for the storybook ending we all aspire to attain.
Props to McAvoy and Hathaway for such stunning performances. Walters and Smith also delivered very adept and convincing portrayals in their respective roles. This film was executed so very well, and was as visually appealing as it was entertaining. I enjoyed this cinematic depiction of Jane Austen's life very much and found myself enthralled from start to finish.
It is oft said that it is better to loved and to have lost than to never have loved at all. Indeed, the power of love can sustain one even after its loss nearly cripples them, and the hopes and dreams entangled therein never truly die.
i luv it we he comes out of nowhere and starts dancing with her...i luv his smile at that piont...i luv it when she says that she doesnt lk him and he kisses her...
<333
Pretty decent. James McAvoy works very well as a smoldering bad boy. Anne Hathaway was good for the most part but her accent was sporadic at some points.
Loved it, but oh my... What a sad ending! I mean, I knew Jane Austen never had a happy ending herself, but was it too much to ask for her to have one in the movie?!
It's so not fair that women had no choices back then. Hhhmm - sometimes women still don't have enough choices today. We are always the ones who have to sacrifice. I think this movie only scratched the surface with the events that happened in her life. Anne and James did a beautiful job despite the sad outcome. They were lovely to watch.
I loved this movie. It was not the ending I expected but still very good. The old way of life has always been my favorite type of setting. I loved the dances and the clothes. There speach was cute and witty. I would see this again
I love this movie! it was so cute! it was kinda hard to follow though because they were using really big words and their accents were strong but overall it was very good. =D
to be honest i was a bit disapointted when i first saw this movie because for me Anne Hathaway's interpretation of Jane Austen is shallow when compared to James MacAvoy as always powerfull performance...The story is far from being a biography of the novelist's life...it seems more to be a explanation on how her life and acquaintances inspired her books and characters...in fact her growing as a writer was what first attracted my interest...By the second time i watch this movie (this movie really needs to be seen at least twice or more) it was the love story with echoes of "Pride and Prejudice" what captivated me...although i always feel like murdering anne hathaway in the scene were the two split because her interpretation totally spoils it. I think this movie has all the ingredients to be a great movie (great cast, soundtrack, photography...) and there are sequences which are really special like when both Jane and Mr. Lefroy go for a walk in the woods and we see each other understanding of the walk or the family scenes...but i always feel something is missing when i watch it...i still think the scene when they decided to split is a let down...not because they split, but because this scene is not as involving as the ones before...at the end what you recall about this film is James MacAvoy's remarkable interpretation of Mr. Lefroy.
I doubt in anyway Jane Austen herdelf would be proud of this. While not a fan of her novels they were more berable that this and the films they are based upon are 100x more interesting than this- yes, even 'Clueless'. In truth the whole focus is on her love life when in fact this film only lights up when her work is mentioned. The mere line: "There were five poor girls..." got me going and seeing Elizabeth and Darcy written across the screen worked equally well. But even the climax seemed lamer and more laboured than any one of her novels. And while you can see the breeding ground for her stories, all of which have simmilar stories, the preamble between the facts is so hard to bear you could care less! It looks pretty and Anne Hathaway is decent but her accent slips and she was more convincing in 'The Princess Diaries'. I love her, starting to love James McAvoy (who if he was the man Darcy was based on Austen must have had a wild imagination to get from A to B), love Maggie Smith (who had what, two lines?! USE HER) and have a fondness for Julie Walters and James Cromwell this was a very underused cast. And the score tries to be some kind of 'Shakespere in Love' or Ang Lee rip off but it just falls short, I needed just a little bit more. In all areas this film needed to go at least one extra step in the right direction to get any sort of relevance out of this piece other than the obvious: Austen was a great writer who based her six novels on true events. If this is true, they must have been pretty lame events!
not too bad. never would have thought of anne hathaway doing a jane austen, much less playing jane austen herself, but she did a good job. don't think the gentleman friend should've gotten ALL the praise for her inspiration, however.
