When American brothers Todd and Jan Wolfhouse travel to Germany to spread their grandfather's ashes at Oktoberfest, they stumble upon a super-secret, centuries old, underground beer games competition ...( read more  read more... )-- "Beerfest," the secret Olympics of beer drinking. The brothers receive a less than warm welcome from their German cousins, the Von Wolfhausens, who humiliate Todd and Jan, slander their relatives, and finally cast them out of the event. Vowing to return in a year to defend their country and their family's honor, the Wolfhouse boys assemble a ragtag dream team of beer drinkers and gamers: Barry Badrinath, the consummate skills player with a dark past; Phil Krundle (aka Landfill), a one-man chugging machine; and Charlie "Fink" Finklestein, the lab tech with a PhD in All Things Beer. This Magnificent Five train relentlessly, using their hearts, minds and livers to drink faster, smarter and harder than they ever have before. But first they must battle their own demons, as well as a bunch of big, blond, German jerks who want to destroy the team before they can even make it back to Munich.

Just doesn't do it for me, probably Broken Lizard's second best work after Super Troopers. Has some memorable moments.

Instead of a chick flick, this movie is a guy movie - with drinking, burping, bare breasts, stupid characters, etc.

I found the beer (and humour) tasteless. Pass on this movie.

Pure and unadulterated Yankee garbage. Dumb, vulgar, insulting, prejudicial and utterly idiotic. The obtuse morons who wrote this piece of crap should buy a plane ticket and visit Germany before even referring to such country. Instead, they film in New Mexico with blonde chicks w...( read more)ith big tits and imbeciles faking accents and pretending to be from other countries and call it a film. Go USA!

As for the beer, I love it as much as the next guy (and frankly, I wish I was pissed when I watched this) but it's not enough to make a film, even this kind in which Americans seem to specialize. The finale, the promise of a sequel called Potfest, is simply the promise that the next time it's the Netherlands and the Dutch who'll be the subject of these cretins' preconceptions. Fucking ridiculous.

Hilarious...I find that anything directed by Jay Chandrasekhar is usually pretty damn good.

Not my type of movie. Parts of it were over-the-top and too gross-out for me...but I thought it was hilarious! Espeically Landfill's replacement.

Crazy comedy! Laughed out loud throughout the whole movie. :)

Oh, sure zey are same Amerikaner's who make ze Super Troopers, und ze Club Dread - vich vas not...( read more) zat gut. Zey think zey impress vith zer constant no-stopping vith ze jokes. The first Broken Lizard movie I've seen and it is hilarious! I can imagine this being popular with students worldwide. Loads of funny scenes. It's probably even funnier if you're watching this drunk. Can't wait to see Club Dread and Super Troopers.

Kyle Smith, New York Post

This movie will be as essential to the DKE house as a Sharpie for writing jokes on a passed-out brother; it's pure guy humor. full review

August 25, 2006
Ty Burr, Boston Globe

Making a comedy that celebrates binge drinking and cretinous behavior isn't a crime against nature. Making one that's as brutally unfunny as Beerfest is. full review

Pete Hammond, Maxim

You'll laugh your Heineken off! Check your brain at the door for this hilarious and unapologetically raunchy yukfest. full review

August 23, 2006
Nick Schager, Slant Magazine

Both filthier and funnier than Broken Lizard's prior efforts, Beerfest is still decidedly hit-or-miss. full review

I love it how it's the Union Jack (Great Britain/UK) on England's jumpers and not the St. George's cross... it's stuff like this that made Beerfest a joke, and not haha.... just became painful come 1/2 way through

The only reason that U.S.A won that contest is because Scotland or Ireland weren't in it. The English can't drink for shit.
