alright now for me I saw the digital 3-D version. I will admit the extra two dollars for this experience did make the movie better. it was fun seeing swords and arrows fly out at you and made the overall experience much more immersive. however it was still slightly a gimmick and could not hide the fact that beowulf is still a slightly average movie. the animation is beautiful and the story is fairly well adapted. the action is good and it was rather bloody for a PG-13, however i am sure if watched in 2-D most will find its content to be nothing new. its a hardcore shrek, but a fun holiday theater experience none the less.

Undecided on this one. I love the story of Beowulf and fear that this movie may be too Hollywood. Not to crazy about it being completely CGI either. Might check it out when released on dvd.

The movie was...okay. It wasn't anything brilliant. It sure wasn't epic. It was just an entertaing movie. Which now a days is hard to come by. The CGI was great. I did see it in 3D. I thought the 3D was great. It didn't seem forced and they weren't shoving it down your thoat showing off how much better 3D has gotten. The story... well it wasn't memorable. I never read the original story so I don't know how closely Zemeckis followed it. I just didn't care enough about any one character. There isn't any one thing that stands out as bad. As a matter of fact there isn't anything that stands out... except for the animation. It was a nice ride that was forgotten as soon as the lights came on.

What. A. Disappointment. I thought this was to be some huge epic adventure that would be remembered for a long time. Boy was I wrong. I understand that they were sticking with the legendary story, but it just didn't do it for me. It started slow, the middle seemed to be only faintly there, and the ending -- ridiculous. I honestly overestimated this film.

The dragon slayer returns, but this time only to be guiled by the dragon herself. I think this beowulf was really lucky ;) This movie is gud for those who dig special effects and history together. Though they couldn't have found a better cast for the dragon herself. So the movie pays off well in the end, for Jolie baby lives to see another king.

OK movie. Isn't entirely like the epic poem - for one, Grendel's mom is not hot in the poem and, well, Jolie played Grendel's mom. The action/fighting isn't impressive - its ok.

"I. AM. BEOWULF!" - This movie barely got a 3 star rating due to my love for Vikings, Norse Mythology, and 3D fun. This is pretty much God of War the movie. Lots of setup for epic monster battles. That's all the good stuff, but the film lacks any sort of emotional investment into the characters; I really did not care if anyone lived or died during that film. That's not to say the "acting" was bad, but there just seemed to be something missing in the character interactions. There are several non-motion-capture films with more "heart" than this movie. Anyway, it's not a bad flick... it's just not that good either. Maybe it's because "300" stole all of the rowdy, manly spirit out of audiences this year. - "BEOWULF!!"

For the people who have actually READ the legend, this is complete bullshit. There is no sex implied between the effing Grendel's mother and Beowulf.

These idiots really can't stick to a good plot, can they? A miss, in my books.

It is not perfect, but it has most of what you look for in a movie - action, drama, fantasy, sex, even religion. Excellent filmmaking! Never boring.

You forget that it's animation 15 mins into the film - interesting coz no one's done a Grecian tale in a while, unless you count 300, but a lot of creative liberty was taken with 300. Nicely executed, but not a must-see.

Despite all you might have read, Beowulf does not appear on screen as he was in the poem which was the origin of this incredibly well designed CGI tour-De-force. This, although a shock to some, I'm sure, means little to the vast majority of viewers who either 1 - never heard of this legendary hero in the first place or 2 - would forever picture him as Christopher Lambert in the eponymous, and eminently forgettable, straight-to-DVD movie of some years ago. The truth is, this movie is a spectacle to behold: it grips you from the first scene, wrings you by the seat of your pants and absolutely knocks your socks off at every corner - at least CGI wise. It has its faults, surely, as any masterpiece, but a masterpiece it still is. Some set pieces are not as well rendered as others (the water in the ocean is a blatant example) but others are just plain outstanding and technology-defying (like the last battle of the movie, which I won't reveal here). Ray Winstone (Beowulf) is tremendously convincing, as is the generally under-rated Crispin Glover (Grendel - who, go figure, is no dragon, as other people said) - Sir Anthony Hopkins is very much royalty in his own right (King Hrothgar) and Robin Right Penn, Brendan Gleeson and John Malkovich excel in the little nuances that give supporting role characters their chances at the Oscars - unfortunately, Angelina Jolie's part is both a visual treat and at the same time an auditory shame - very few lines are spoken - it seems seeing her with zero garments was understood to be enough to satisfy the teenage crowds - well, I would certainly have liked for more character development but what the hell, can't really complain. As far as anthropomorphic CGI goes all the main characters are instantly recognizable but not perfect (this is still an evolution over Zemecky's own "The Polar Express", mind you) and no matter how much the 3D effects try (and try they do, believe you me), they still seem like gimmicks - the first part of the movie and the cave scenes encompass the best 3D trickery on display - and this new fangled technology is truly superior to the previous red-blue glasses of yesteryear - and will probably leave you with a little less of a hangover afterward. When all is said and done, it stands out on its own merits: epic, comes to mind, and so does cutting edge. This is a movie that will sell a lot of HD hardware (be it BluRay or HD-DVD or whatever else just comes out meanwhile), and sure to be displayed in plasmas and LCD screens all over the world when this movie goes on sale. Go see it now, at theaters, in its original digital form, 3D glasses over your nose and enjoy it for what it is: pure magic.

Vikings...but on CGI.The first minutes of the Movie makes me feel disappointed as their eyes have no emotion, same as The Polar Express. The Story line is mixed with Tolkein inspirations & mythological facts. We don't give a damn whether that Naked Hero is true or not,we're just curious about how CGs gonna work.Well,it worked pretty well. They invested their brains not only on the visuals, but also on the Audio.Eeee... that Grendel(Crispin Glover)'s screaming, bust my ears off.The big mistake in this Movie is that it's not about how Beowulf fought against those creepy creatures,it's about one Hot Mama who want to have baby demons. The Title must changed from "Beowulf" to "The Curse Of The Demon Hottie"<sigh>.In 300,Leonidas roars"This Is Spartaaaaa"only once, but his voice is still striking my ears up till now.Beowulf roars"I am Beowulf!"for about how many times?I can't even count them. And believe me U gonna forget his voice when the curtain falls. To be honest, the last battle scene was totally a breath-taking,but it's too late to save a Movie. If the actors have to put on the CG masks & do the actings,Crispin Glover is the one to give the applause. He had to do the mouth thing at all times & act,and Grendel worked out pretty well.Thank god it's from Robert Zemeckis, others would do some serious stuffs, like the one in Apoclypto. If you were tired of being watching same old Viking tales, this is the one not to be miss.Or else don't blame on their emotionless eyes..</sigh>

never read the original, but my friend said that the only thing this has in common with it is the title. lackluster story, but the animation is really something to see. if i thought it was worth the 11 bucks, i might go see this in 3D at the IMAX, but that ain't happening

as one reviewer put it "Shrek meets 300"... fairly accurate statement... great visuals, but the story could have used some more fleshing out... Can't say enough about the visuals though...

was really awesome! however i did not enjoy the fact that they made him out to be this hero turned liar when in the original playwrite he was this heroic type god-like person. the end seemed like they needed to add an extra hour & a half to kill time so they came up with an entire new plot line.

Bottom line, it's a great movie to those that have never read the original story, but to those who have, it may seem disapointing.

Great CG & interesting spin on the old legend! The character's resemblance to the stars doing the "voices" added some fun to watching the story itself.

Alright, I love the whole story of Beowulf since I read the story back in high school. Sure I went into this thinking it's going to be as bad as the one with Gerard Butler. At first I was refraining from holding my laughter at parts because I just couldn't beleive the way Zemekis was revealing everything he had done. There was moments that I was giggling to myself because of it. I stuck with it and in the end it paid out very well. At least I think so. There was a moment where the animation didn't work out to its potential and it was kinda at a crucial point in the story(if you watch it, you'll know), it was just really choppy and it looked like one of those ghost movements from House on haunted hill. But as I said the ending was very impressive and I loved the entire dragon fight. I am a bit rusty on the way the book ended but I liked the way it went.

On a side note. I think every epic movie should have Brenden Gleeson in it. I just can't see one withouit him...lol...think of it...Braveheart, Troy, Gangs of New York, Kingdom of Heaven...did I miss any?

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It was everything I thought it would be. Loud, Brash, visually stunning and memorable. Don't look for amazing performances, its a animation. Take it for what it is. computer generated entertainment.

Awesome movie! From what the previews on TV showed, I thought this was going to be a bad movie, but it turned out to be a really good movie. My class saw it in the thearters today in 3D and it was really beautifully done. The graphics were top notch and the whole movie was awesome! Loved it.
